When your baby arrives- along with him or her comes an abundance of things like toys, clothes and gifts, all of which you need to find space for. But what happens when you’re a minimalist and want to maintain this lifestyle when you have a baby? Here are my top tips:

Be mindful with gifts

Be mindful with gifts

Keep on top of their clothes- Babies grow out of their clothes so fast so it’s vital that you keep tight control on what you dress them in. Rotate their wardrobe so they wear all their clothes and as they start to grow out of them you can easily identify which ones you can donate to a charity shop of give to a friend or family member who might need them.

Keep a handle on their toys- Again, give them chance to play with all their toys by having some in their bedroom or playroom and some in your living space so you can see which ones they no longer play with and which ones no longer stimulate them. Once these become apparent- you can then give them away.

Be mindful with gifts- If people ask you what you need for your baby- ask for money to put towards their future, or a voucher so you can spend it on what you really need, or simply ask for specific items so you don’t double up or end up with something that you will never use for your child.

Digitise your entertainment- There are plenty of shows on TV and streaming services that provide cartoons for your baby if you choose to let them watch a bit of TV. So, there is no need for DVDs and Blu-rays in your home.

Be wary of how many books your baby has- Books can easily mount up, so give yourself a maximum and limit the total amount you want in your home and as each one becomes redundant- give it away to worthy cause.

Spread the hoard around- If your baby spends a lot of time with specific family members- ask if you can leave some of the toys at their house so your baby always has something to entertain them wherever they are.

Digitize your pictures- Although it may be tempting to print out every picture you take of your baby- you will end up with lots of albums which you need to find physical space for. Instead, keep digital albums of all your key milestones in your baby’s life and make sure you back it up!
