A diet rich in cookies, and you still lose weight? Sounds like the stuff of dreams doesn't it? Well, now one doctor has made it a reality.
Adult obesity rates across Britain are at an all-time high; just under a quarter of men and just over a quarter of women are now obese. It’s thought that will continue to rise - in fact some are expecting it to almost double by 2025, with nearly half of all men in the UK and 36% of women predicted to be obese by then.
So as a nation with a fast growing waist line, does that make us easy pickings? We’re asking because whether it’s through newspaper headlines, books, word of mouth or social media, we’re constantly hit by new diet trends and fads. We’re told to eat more sensibly, diet and exercise. But, what about the idea of losing weight by eating nearly a dozen cookies every day? Sound good? Well, that’s exactly what a leading GP and nutritionist is telling us to do.
Dr Sarah Brewer is backing the new Dr Siegal diet which has just launched in the UK after being available in the US for nearly 40 years. According to the instructions on the special cookie diet box, you can eat nine of them a day as part of a calorie controlled meal plan.
Dr Brewer says: ““Sadly obesity is on the rise and it is important to think about what we are eating to develop a long-term healthy eating regime and to exercise more. The nice thing about the cookie diet is that once you have lost the amount of weight you want to, you can continue to use the cookies as a healthy snack in-between reintroducing your breakfast and lunch.”
Does it do what it says on the box though? We’ve been looking into the new diet.
