A new treatment will be launched in the UK which could help the millions of women suffering from uterine fibroids – a condition which is the most common cause of hysterectomies and which can lead infertility.

Uterine fibroids are the most common benign tumours in women of reproductive age occurring in 20-40% of these women, can cause infertility and is the leading reason for hysterectomies in the UK.
As many as 3.5 million women could have uterine fibroids in the UK – although not all will have symptoms,
The issue affects women of all ages and races but is three times more common in women of African descent.
Treatment for the condition in the past has consisted of injections to shrink the fibroids, then surgery, however a new oral treatment is being rolled out across the UK which it’s hoped will be more convenient and effective for the millions of women suffering from uterine fibroids.
This week during the 2012 World Congress of the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics new data has been announced to support the availability of this treatment.
