With winter around the corner, we catch-up with Dr. Sarah Gray to give us some health advice on how to avoid any problems down there.

The following information has been provided by Dr Sarah Gray:

Don’t let tights leave you itching:

“Tights can predispose to thrush if the wearer happens to get very hot and sweaty for long periods as the humid environment allows yeast to multiply more readily.

To reduce the chance of getting thrush wear tights and underwear that allow the skin to breathe. Also, it is best to avoid biological detergents and perfumed fabric conditioners if there is a tendency to be sensitive to chemicals as traces remaining at the end of the wash can provoke reactions.”

Don’t stop drinking…water

“It’s easy to forget to drink water in the winter. Some women may limit their fluids to avoid having to go to the toilet in the cold and that is not a good idea as you are more likely to suffer from cystitis if you do not drink enough fluids”

Prevent any gynae problems this winter

"With the festive season and parties looming it is worth reviewing your choice of contraception and ensuring that you also have a supply of condoms if you are contemplating a new relationship. Unintended pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases are nasty surprises that are best avoided."
