It’s official that we have broken the world record, which is a brilliant achievement, and we hope that the tour and our milestone birthday this month will encourage everyone to support us by donating whatever they can to help make our 25thanniversary year

The world’s biggest Pass the Parcel has arrived back in London after 10 days on the road to mark the 25th anniversary of Make-A-Wish Foundation® UK.

For the last 10 days, the huge parcel has been travelling all over the UK granting 25 special wishes to young people who are fighting life-threatening illnesses and the hospitals that care for them. At each stop, a layer was peeled off to reveal the gift.

The parcel has visited 25 towns and cities on its travels including Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Belfast, Cardiff and London.

Yesterday (16th June), Lois Ladkin-Brown, aged 4, was granted the 25th wish of becoming a princess for the day at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.Princess Lois

Make-A-Wish has revealed that the most popular wish over the last 25 years is visiting Disney World and the most popular celebrities that children have wished to meet are Kylie, WWE and The Cure.

Measuring 3.35m in length, 2.44m in breadth and 1.88m in depth – a total volume of 15.37 cubic metres – the parcel has beaten the previous world record by 40% in size.

Guinness World Records verified the new world record yesterday following the completion of the parcel’s tour of the UK.

In order to break the record, Make-A-Wish submitted official documentation gathered throughout the tour including video footage, photography and independent witness signatures. An official GWR adjudicator was also present for the start and finale of the record attempt in London.

Neil Jones, Make-A-Wish Chief Executive commented in a statement today,

“It’s official that we have broken the world record, which is a brilliant achievement, and we hope that the tour and our milestone birthday this month will encourage everyone to support us by donating whatever they can to help make our 25thanniversary year our best year ever.”

Gifts given to patients include holidays to Turkey, Sorrento and Disney Land in Paris and America, games consoles, swimming with dolphins and becoming a princess for a day.

Anna Orford, Adjudicator from Guinness World Records added to the statement,

“We’d like to congratulate Make-A-Wish on this fantastic achievement.  Everyone involved has had tremendous fun and this is result of the hard work and commitment of the organizers.”

Since being established in the UK in 1986, the Make-A-Wish charity has granted more than 6,700 wishes over 25 years and by 2012 aim to grant at least 1,000 wishes per year.
