EA’s marketing director Stuart Lang started off his showcase opening speech, by saying that they really believe Battlefield 3 is going to be the FPS game of the year. From what we saw played out in front of us (on a super powered PC may I add), it did look very beautiful, and looked as if it played like a contender to say the least.
the opening of the level saw the controlled character we now know as Sergeant Black in an army APC with the rest of his team; a Johnny Cash soundtrack sets the scene well, a real mood changer
The action is intense, and when played on a powerful system with the audio technology to match, it really does make you sit on the edge of your seat. We weren’t exactly shown anything new, it was more just proof that the videos that have already been posted all over the internet, are actually indicative of the experience you get playing it. We got to see the opening level being played, the same level you can see on the very first Battlefield 3 announcement video.
We were warned it was still a very early version of the game, and therefore it may experience some problems; this didn’t stop the whole room groaning with disappointment when it proceeded to crash twice. The game crashing could possibly be an indication that there is still a way to go in the development of the title. What we did see looked good, the opening of the level saw the controlled character we now know as Sergeant Black in an army APC with the rest of his team; a Johnny Cash soundtrack sets the scene well, a real mood changer.
The team banter sounds brilliant, funny and well voice-acted. One of the team asks ‘Is this a school?’ the other replies ‘Oh I forgot, they didn’t have schools where you grew up.’ The animations flow neatly, and the visuals are just as stunning as what you can see in the videos. It is a shame that we didn’t get to experience anything new, but what we did experience is proof that this game really does look as good as you can’t believe it does.
