Yo! Sushi

Yo! Sushi

Yo! Sushi has released another limited edition dish especially for Christmas- the Super Mega Bowl! I had never eaten in the Yo! Sushi in the Trafford Centre before so I was keen to experience it for the first time.

It is nestled within the right hand side of the entrance to Selfridges and I assumed when walking past before that the Christmas shoppers would be disruptive to the diners. This was not the case. The restaurant is set just far enough back and has music piped into the area, that you don’t really notice the people around you. It was nice to be able to watch the world go by while enjoying our meal- smug in the knowledge that were not in the middle of it all.

There are 6 delicious Super Mega Bowl dishes to choose from:

Beef Teriyaki - Enjoy crispy fried beef glazed in a sticky and sweet Teriyaki sauce mixed with onions and beni shoga pickle on a bed of rice.

Salmon Teriyaki - Grilled salmon fillets in a sweet and sticky Teriyaki sauce are accompanied with vegetables and rice.

Miso Chicken Ramen - Irresistible chicken marinated in sake and miso sauce with classic bamboo shoots, egg, ramen noodles and a traditional Unami broth.

Spicy Seafood Don - Salmon, shrimps and coils of squid combined with vegetables and rice in a spicy broth.

Chicken Katsu Curry - Considered as Japan's national dish, one of the best selling dishes has just got bigger! Delicious pieces of chicken covered in Japanese breadcrumbs with a mild and rich Japanese curry sauce on a massive bed of rice.

Tofu Katsu Curry (V) - A veggie version. Crispy Tofu in panko breadcrumbs in Japanese curry sauce, served with rice.

With fish, chicken, beef and a vegetarian option, there is a great selection to suit everyone, so even the pickiest of eaters will be happy. They are also proof that Yo! Sushi prepares other dishes that don’t contain sushi- a common misconception among many people still.

We had the Chicken Katsu Curry and the Salmon Teriyaki. The curry is perfect for mild curry lovers, with just enough spices to give it a kick but certainly not overbearing- it is clear why it is a favourite, as it brings that Yo! Sushi twist to a classic.

The Salmon Teriyaki is ideal for sweet and sour lovers- this sweet and sticky sauce is addictive and the rice allows you to soak up all that lovely sauce once the meat is gone.

All this was washed down by sevreal glasses of ice cold, unlimited water available at the table from our very own tap.

Both me and my partner are big eaters and we were not prepared for the sheer amount that we were going to be faced with- when they say mega, they mean mega! I would suggest that you order this first and then if you still feel peckish- take something off the conveyor belt afterwards. We did it the other way around and were defeated. And don’t worry if you struggle with chop sticks- if you need something more familiar- like a spoon when eating your monster dish- just ask, the staff were happy to bring some over for us.

If you were put off by the idea of Yo! Sushi because you are one of those people who likes to have their own plate of food rather than picking and sharing, don’t worry because they have found a solution with the Super Mega Bowl. This is the equivalent of a main course meal, so you can just concentrate on one thing, rather than dipping in and out of several dishes.

Mega bowls are also a great way to get your fill of your favourite dish- if you just like one thing you can get just that and indulge. It works out cheaper too than buying several of the same coloured plates- so you are not only guaranteed your favourite meal but at a fraction of the cost of what you would normally spend.

We were served by Dan, who was very attentive all night and made sure we had everything we needed. There was a table ready for us within minutes of us arriving and the food came very quickly despite being to order rather than available on the conveyor belt.

For £8.00 each you can enjoy a mouth-watering meal with drinks for around £20 so if your money is running out at the end of a hectic shopping day at the Trafford Centre I would recommend choosing Yo! Sushi, as it won’t break the bank.
