As one of the most secretive places on Earth, there have been plenty of conspiracies in regards to the United States of America's Area 51. Located in Lincoln County, Nevada, everybody has their own opinion about what may be there and if the government have been truthful when talking about the location. Here, we take a deep dive into all of that; remember to let us know what you think in our poll!
What is 'official'?
Area 51 is officially described as a military installation by the United States Federal Government. Its operator is the United States Air Force, and it's a highly classified remote detachment of Edwards Air Force Base. The correct names for the facility are actually Homey Airport and Groom Lake, with the name Area 51 coming from a CIA document used in the Vietnam War.
Historical evidence suggests that Area 51 is a base supporting the development and testing of experimental aircraft and weapons systems, otherwise known as black projects. Because of the secrecy surrounding the installation however, a whole bunch of conspiracy theories have been conjured up.
Aliens!
The leading conspiracy theory in regards to Area 51 is that it's being used as a base to store crashed alien spacecraft, so that investigations and examinations can be held. Many even believe that the technology taken from such spacecraft is then being used to further our own engineering, so that we can be ahead of the game when it comes to the creation of spacecraft.
Though it's very likely the United States government would shoot first, ask questions later when it comes to an entirely new life force making an appearance on Earth, there are also those who believe joint meetings are held between the US government and extraterrestrials at Area 51.
Other conspiracies
Though aliens always come out on top when people are asked what secrets they think are hiding at Area 51, there are some other ideas being thrown around. Here are some of the most interesting:
- The development of time travel technology, allowing United States officials to go back in time and ensure that events can be put in motion to trigger realities in the present day.
- The development of weather control technology.
- Activities and meetings between those in power who are attempting to form a New World Order, otherwise known as a one world government.
- The creation of energy-driven weapons, giving the United States military the upper hand in any future major confrontations.
- The development of teleportation technology, so that those in power can be in any place, at any time.
NOTE: Conspiracies are theories often created with a lack of evidence. Each of our conspiracy reports are based on online research, but should never be taken as 100% fact.
