It feels like yesterday we all welcomed the new decade. But now that 2010 is nearly over let’s have a little look at what’s been happening this year...
One thing that 2010 showed us is that celebrity males just can’t keep it in their pants. Ashely Cole, John Terry, Wayne Rooney, Ronan Keating and Mark Owen all committed the ultimate betrayal.
Ashley was exposed for the slimy love-rat he really is. Even after Cheryl gave him a second chance back in 2008 when he was caught cheating for the first time, the footballer just couldn’t help himself.
Sex texting away, sending scandalous pictures of himself and even sneaking one of the girls into his Chelsea team’s hotel room. Chezza did good in getting rid.
Wayne Rooney was also in the news for all the wrong reason when it was revealed that he slept with a £1,200-a-night prostitute not once but seven times while his wife Coleen was pregnant. The wag ended up giving him another chance so let’s hope for her that he doesn’t pull an Ashley Cole.
It wasn’t just footballers playing away this year oh no... Singers Ronan Keating and Mark Owen were also infected with this cheating disease. Ronan had a full blown seven-month affair with a backing dancer but somehow he managed to win his wife Yvonne back.
Mark on the other hand had a shocking ten yes, ten affairs which he blamed down to his long battle with booze he now plans to start life afresh with wife Emma and their children.
Well at least Katy Perry made an honest man of wild and wacky Russell Brand. The pair had a traditional Indian wedding and they look beautifully happy, ahhh a nice change from all the break-ups in the news.
Other big celeb news of 2010 was when Big Brother finally decided to call it a day. This summer we saw two additional weeks of Ultimate Big Brother where Brian Dowling was crowned the Ultimate contestant. It’s sort of sad to think they’ll be no more BB but I’m pretty sure that another reality show will fill its big boots.
Another huge story of 2010 was of course our new Government. Two parties joined forces resulting in the first coalition Government since World War 2. Tory leader David Cameron and Lib-Dem leader Nick Clegg are now working together to improve our nation. Not that much particular good has been done so far with the spending cuts and the tuition fees for university students rising.
One of the stories which truly shook the nation was the police manhunt for Raoul Moat. The 37-year-old from Newcastle shot three people, two days after his release: his ex-girlfriend Samantha Stobbart, her new partner Chris Brown, and police officer David Rathband.
Samantha and David we’re seriously injured and hospitalised. But Chris was killed. After six days on the run, Moat was recognised by police and contained in the open, leading to a standoff. After nearly six hours of negotiation, Moat died after shooting himself in the early hours of the following morning.
Another story which shook the nation was the Chilean miners who were trapped underground for 69 days. The men we’re working when the mine caved in and trapped them. But amazingly all 32 men survived the horrific ordeal and we’re rescued one by one in a custom-made capsule.
The whole rescue procedure was televised and it was truly one of the most remarkable moments of 2010, when each and every single miner came out back to normality.
Earthquakes, floods, blizzards, and volcanic eruptions, 2010 has seen more natural disasters than ever before. The Haitian earthquake killed nearly 240,000. And just a month later another earthquake in Chile caused a tsunami.
America and China we’re caught up in severe snowstorms. And then the volcano Eyjafjallajokull started erupting causing ash plume drifting down from Iceland. The European airspace was shut leaving people who went aboard stuck.
This event was followed by the floods in Pakistan. This terrible tragedy left millions homeless and over 2,000 dead. Then there were landslides in Colombia and Mexico along with a hurricane. Hopefully 2011 won’t bring any more disasters.
On the music scene it was the reunion that everyone had been waiting for... Gary, Howard, Jason, Mark and yes Robbie. Take That who parted ways back in 1995 finally kissed and made up much to all their fans delight. And will now be releasing a new sparkly album along with a tour. Lovely! But... Will it last is the question?
Other music related news of the year consisted mainly of a little pop star called Justin Bieber who debuted last year, but this year we have witnessed the Bieber fever well and truly taking over.
Lady Gaga blew everyone away at the MTV Music Awards landing a record of 13 nominations and winning an impressive 8. Go Girl.
And although her husband was a lying cheat and she had malaria and her world basically crumbled on the brighter side Chezza’s solo career went from going strength from strength. The nation’s sweetheart has had two consecutive number one albums in the UK: ‘3 words’ and ‘Messy Little Raindrops.’ Along with two number one singles: ‘Fight for This Love’ and ‘Promise This.’ Not bad at all.
When it comes to movies this year has most definitely been the year of 3D. Movies such as ‘Avatar,’ ‘Shrek Forever After,’ ‘How to train your Dragon,’ ‘Toy Story 3,’ ‘Despicable me,’ ‘Megamind,’ ‘Alice in Wonderland’ ‘Step Up,’ even ‘Saw’ which everyone thought after six sequels it's come to an end, but oh no it hit are cinema screens once again in 3D, just in case you didn’t feel sick enough by watching the previous six, a 3D viewing of it should do the job.
In the fashion world it was a sad day on Febuary the 11th when British fashion designer Alexandra MacQueen was found dead after taking his own life. The industry was left reeling after the 40-year-old's suicide which came just days after the death of his beloved mother, Joyce.
Australia’s Next Top Model caused controversy this year when host Sarah Murdoch announced the wrong winner. It was a live television disaster like no other.
Sarah said the winner was Kelsey Martinovich but moments later her face dropped when she listened to the producer’s voice in her earpiece and realised Amanda Ware was in fact the winner.
The disastrous event was soon a worldwide scandal with everyone talking about it.
In other fashion news supermodel Naomi Campbell was awarded a prize by the British Fashion Council in recognition of her influence on the fashion industry over the past 25 years.
In royal news the Queen is getting down with the kids by joining Facebook. Its called the official British Monarchy page and although none of us can actually become ‘friends’ with the Queen we can click the like button and have a nosy at the pics.
And finally there is only one way to end this year’s round up. With what is set to be the biggest event of 2011 our very own Prince William is tying the knot with girlfriend Kate Middelton.
The pair announced their engagement this November in a revealing interview on ITV1. With speculation of a summer wedding upon us everyone is getting all excited.
And it is exciting it is. But there’s no need for any of us to get our hats at the ready because we’re not actually invited. So. There.
