J.K. Rowling has declined to seek damages from a French teenager who
translated the latest Harry Potter novel and posted it online.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested in Aix-en-Provence last week(ends10Aug07)
after he posted his French translation of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows
online, two months ahead of the official French release.Rowling's French publishers Gallimard said charges against the boy have been
dropped after Rowling said she wouldn't pursue legal action against him because
he didn't make any money from the illegal translation.Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the seventh and final book in the Harry Potter
series and was released in July this year.
The book sold 11 million copies in the first twenty four hours, in the U.S and UK alone
breaking the record of nine million held by the sixth book Harry Potter and the Half
Blood Prince.The book has become the fastest selling in history.The books, which have spanned a decade, have made author J.K Rowling a fortune and she is
reportedly worth an estimated £545 million, or $1.12 billion, making her the first billion-dollar
author.
