The cause of Brittany Murphy's sudden death has been "deferred" pending further tests, following the completion of an autopsy on her body.
Examinations carried out on Monday (20Dec09) - just a day after Murphy suffered a cardiac arrest at her Los Angeles home - found there was no evidence of foul play, reports TMZ.com.
Sources tell the website the Los Angeles County coroner will wait for the result of a toxicology report and a study of the actress' organs, tissues and brain, before releasing the cause of her death in four to six weeks time.
Insiders claim Murphy's body appeared "normal" and had not been subject to physical trauma.
The actress was rushed to hospital but doctors were unable to revive her and she died on Sunday aged thirty two.
She is survived by her husband Simon Monjack who she married in 2007.
The actress was due to begin work on Happy Feet 2, once again lending her voice to the character Gloria.
