Anna Nicole Smith's Funeral Goes Ahead, Despite Last Ditch Court Battle.... Anna Nicole Smith's funeral in the Bahamas has taken place, despite last minute attempts by her mother to stop the service.Virgie Arthur filed a petition in an attempt to stall the funeral, but it was rejected this morning (2Mar07) by a Bahamian court. Smith's ex-husband Billy Smith yesterday (1Mar07) applied to exhume the remains of their son Daniel - and move them from the Bahamas to his native Texas.Despite the court furore, hundreds of Bahamians turned out to watch Anna Nicole Smith's coffin arrive on a private jet and make its way to the Mount Horeb Baptist Church in Nassau where it was carried along a red carpet.Around 300 guests attended a private service at the church.Later today, Smith will be taken to Lakeview Memorial Park cemetery where she will be buried next to her son Daniel, in a ceremony watched by around 30 close friends and family members.Earlier in other news Anna Nicole Smith's funeral was in jeopardy after her ex-husband applied to exhume the remains of their son Daniel from his Bahamian grave so he can be reburied in his native Texas.Billy Smith, who divorced the model/actress in 1993, filed a motion in the Bahamian Supreme Court on Thursday (01Mar07), reports the New York Daily News.Billy's attorney Kara Butler says in court papers, "We have been instructed and hereby formally request permission to have the remains of Daniel Wayne Smith (deceased) exhumed from its current location here in the Commonwealth of the Bahamas and be transferred where his father and family resides in the state of Texas."
The development could have affected the funeral of Anna Nicole, which is scheduled to take place at Lakeview Memorial Gardens & Mausoleums on Nassau later today (02Mar07). Anna Nicole's body has left a Florida morgue in preparation for flight to Bahamas in the last few hours.
In a seperate appeal Anna Nicole's estranged mother Virgie Arthur also attempted to delay the service.
Arthur lost a legal battle with Anna Nicole's partner Howard K. Stern to bury her daughter in Texas, but the lawyer insisted she would have wanted to be buried next to her son in the Bahamas.
Anna Nicole was found death in a Florida hotel room last month (Feb07), just five months after the death of Daniel, who was killed by an accidental overdose of prescription drugs.
