Amanda Peet

Amanda Peet has awful memories of her school days in England - she was made to eat "maggot infested" Spam.

The 2012 star has recently returned from Belfast, Ireland, where her eldest daughter Frankie went to school - and Peet can only hope the child won't be as scarred by her own education experience overseas as she was.

The actress reveals she attended a London school with her sister when she was growing up and she's still "traumatised" by the experience.

She says, "I went to a tiny little English school that was a little bit like (Charles Dickens novel) Oliver Twist or something.

"They would roll out this trolley in a dark basement room and it had three plates of food and you had to have a little bit of each and you had to finish your food.

"Sometimes my sister and I would be down there at, like, 3.30, and my mom's waiting to pick us up from school but we are still eating the maggot-infested Spam... We found maggots in our lettuce."

Peet admits the bad memories came flooding back when she went to look at schools for her daughter.

She adds, "When I went to look at this school, I got really tense because it looked like... the same kind of food.

"It was waffle with SpaghettiOs dumped on top of it and then crumbled fish fingers, which she (teacher) crumbled in her hands... and my brother-in-law's an infectious diseases researcher... so all we talk about at the dinner table is how you contract anything.

"The food wasn't so bad in the end, but, boy, I was like, 'My daughter's not going here'."
