Logan Lerman has made quite a name for himself this year with Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief and is a young action talent that we should all keep a very close eye on.
It's the 21st century, but the gods of Mount Olympus and assorted monsters have walked out of the pages of high school student Percy Jackson's Greek mythology texts and into his life.
And they're not happy: Zeus' lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect. Even more troubling is the sudden disappearance of Percy's mother.
As Percy adapts to his newly discovered status as a demi-god (his father is Poseidon), he finds himself caught between the battling titans of Mt. Olympus.
He and his friends embark on a cross-country adventure to catch the true lightning thief, save Percy's mom, and unravel a mystery more powerful than the gods themselves.
The Gods and Greek mythology is something that has become quite popular again at the box office so far this year and Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief brings these great stories to a new generation,
Chris Columbus, who has worked on the Harry Potter franchise, is back in the director’s chair as a new franchise is brought to life.
Percy Jackson is a great fun filled action packed movie that is a good way to pass a couple of hours for all of the family.
It’s clear that this movie could be the start of a new franchise and the first film always stars of slow as it lays the ground rules as well introducing characters and explaining back stories. But once that is out of the way the adventure begins as Greek mythology is alive and well in the twenty first century.
The movie mixes action, adventure with myth and humour with great success as Columbus has produced a film that not only looks great but has a lot of heart and passion.
The role of Percy Jackson has proved to be THE part for Logan Lerman as he is a strong lead that all the girls are bound to fall in love with.
But what’s great is the movie doesn’t take the Greek mythology side too seriously and Columbus has a laugh with stories and characters that we are all familiar with, medusa working in a garden centre for example turning all her punters into stone.
But the movie has many sub-plots and there is a great central story of the importance of family and putting family first as well as looking at teenage angst as we all try to figure out who we are and were we belong.
The CGI is spectacular and brings to life creatures such as the Hydra and Medusa, so often we see under par special effects but not this time around.
There are also some great supporting performances from Pierce Brosnan as a Centaur, Sean Bean as Zeus and Steve Coogan as Hades with hell situated just under Hollywood.
In all this is an exciting family movie that has something for everyone to enjoy and is a very promising start to a franchise.
