Set amidst a breathtaking 1930’s backdrop, carrying precise detail to the time period and using rich cinematography, the gripping tale explores a mother’s obsessive devotion to her musically gifted but chillingly cruel daughter, Veda played by rising star Evan Rachel Wood (True Blood, The Wrestler), as well as the complex relationships she shares with the three men in her life: the dashing Monty Beragon played by Guy Pearce (The Hurt Locker, The King’s Speech), philandering ex-husband Bert Pierce, played by Brian F. O’Byrne (Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead) and businessman Wally Burgan played by James LeGros (Alley McBeal, Mercy).
