What does it mean to dream about dirt?

Consider the phrase ‘dish the dirt’- to dream about dirt suggests that you or someone else is spreading gossip or scandal in your waking hours.

If this is you- perhaps you need to focus on your own affairs rather than being preoccupied with other people’s business. Your diverted focus is taking you away from something happening in your own life, so it’s time to fix this rather than using other people’s misfortunes to make yourself feel better.

On the other hand, if someone is telling other people about your personal life, it may be wise to either distance yourself from them as they clearly aren't good to have around or call them out on their behaviour. Be careful who you trust in the future.

To clean dirt from yourself in a dream implies that you are trying to clear your reputation- which may be a result of the person’s action mentioned above. If your name is dirt, what can you do to change people’s perceptions of you? Apologise to someone? Make up for a regretful action? Or put them straight?

The more dirt in your dream, the greater the task to get in everyone’s good books again, however if there was only a little dirt on you, you will have an easy time of ingratiating yourself back in with the people you care about the most.

Furthermore, if you were cleaning dirt from your body, you want to cleanse yourself of things that make you look and feel bad. Perhaps you are detoxing your life and body of things that are detrimental to it, or maybe the dream is a sign that you should. Even things on the surface can still penetrate and make you feel worse about yourself so it’s important to focus on what’s happening on the outside as well as the inside.

If you were seeking out something dirty in your dream, it’s possible you always look for the worst in people. You are pleased when you find out something negative about those around you because it’s a diversion from your own failings. You will be much happier if you search for solutions to your own problems rather than finding reasons to down other people.

To see dirt in your home indicates problems within your relationship and home life. Try to pay close attention to the people you live with as there is some work to be done to get this area of your life cleaned up again.

To see someone else covered in dirt in your dreamscape means you are treating them like dirt. You are being unkind to them and it needs to stop now. Why do you feel you can get away with this attitude when you’re with this person? If they care about you, they may be able to forgive your nastiness, but if you are not that well acquainted, don’t be surprised if they walk away from whatever connection you have or address your behaviour with you directly.
