They've still got it...

Matt Littler and Darren Jeffries, who a quite possibly best known for playing my first two celebrity crushes (I couldn’t decide who I liked best) Max Cunningham and Sam ‘O.B.’ O’Brien in Hollyoaks are getting behind the launch of a brand new Sony Ericsson handset, and after five minutes of me talking bout being stood up on my date and living in the same village as Darren without knowing it, we got down to the nitty gritty.

Hey boys, you’ve done so well for yourselves since leaving Hollyoaks, how has the past year been for you?

Matt : We have been really lucky and it’s been amazing, we’ve done so many things. I was actually looking back at some of the stuff we’ve done last week and we’ve been everywhere and done loads of stuff and I’ve loved every second of it, it’s been amazing.

Darren : Yes, it was a fantastic 12 months and we’ve appreciated every minute of it. When you leave a show it can be quite difficult to move on and get work and we though we might have to wait a while before we got work but it wasn’t like that at all, we’ve been so busy and having a ball.

Matt: I get to go to work with my mate every day and I love my job and I’m so grateful for the opportunity we’ve been given. I’m in a really good place work-wise now.

I like the double act think, you’re like the new Ant & Dec….

Matt: I think we’re more like Bert and Ernie really.

Yeah perhaps, but one of them has a banana head…

Darren: I see what you’re saying, but otherwise they’d look the same, I think it’s good that one has a oval head and one’s got an oblong head.

Matt: I know about the banana thing though, it’s because his hair’s black it’s like the top of a banana isn’t it?

Yes, and someone once told me that the black bits in bananas were tarantula eggs, so I’m not down with that…

Darren: You’re kind of ruining Bert and Ernie for me now

Anyway, I actually cried when Max died on Hollyoaks, you and OB was my favourite, and I think OB was my first TV crush, I was SO made when he started going out with that Summer bird!

Darren: No, she was lovely! You know I always find that everyone treat me like a nephew, so many people used to come up to me saying “she wasn’t any good for you” or “I can’t see you with her, it’s not going to work out” but I mean she’s a really attractive posh bird who’s dead talented, it’s perfect.

I can’t discuss you and Summer anymore, it’s making me angry, let’s talk about your show Red Bull Rivals it looks good and I like the Red Bull Air Race, is it like that?

Matt: It’s the best job in the world!

Darren: The series was originally on T4 last year but it’s being repeated now on the Q music channel so you can catch it on that. It’s basically just me and Matt going around the world and taking part in extreme sport events and competing against each other.

That’s amazing, who won the last series?

Matt: I won!

Darren: Only by one point!

Matt: Yeah, only by one point but it was amazing that we got to take part in these huge finals. It’s sponsored by Red Bull who sponsor a lot of extreme sporting events and high adrenaline athletes. We got to take part in things like cliff-diving, stunt motorbiking and free running, it was incredible and did make good telly as we are genuinely competitive with each other!

Wow, it sounds good, I want to do stuff like that, plus Sebastian Vettel is sponsored by Red Bull, so maybe you can hook me up you know?

Darren: Oh yes, we met a couple of the Red Bull athletes and they were all so talented and really, really good people and they were there for me and Matt every step of the day. It was just one of those experiences where you had to keep pinching yourself as we were going to all these different countries.

If I wanted to do it, would I need to do loads of training?

Darren: I think to take part in some of the events you’d need to train or you’d injure yourself, it’s like anything, if you’re going to take it seriously, you need to put the training in there, but it’s all good fun.

I’m too scared I think…. Now, you’re also the faces of The Versus Chart on 4Music - what’s that about then, I hear singers do battle and I once saw that TV programme on MTV where little Plasticine people were wrestling, Celebrity Deathmatch was it? I wasn’t a fan of that.

Darren: Yeah, it’s not really like that, we don’t have any Plasticine characters in it… it’s mainly just me and Matt supporting an act each and we go head-to-head and show the videos and chat about what makes them unique and then we come to a decision of who we think is best.

Matt: we sort of become the barristers of both of the acts.

But what if you get someone dead rubbish like Chico and The Cheeky Girls?

Darren: Oh no, we don’t pull the artists out of the hat, we sit down and we have a serious chat about which bands would make a genuinely interesting competition. We’ve had some very interesting ones like The Killers Vs. Kings Of Leon and Beyonce Vs. Jay-Z. we’ve just rapped up out second series and it’s on 4Music at the moment every Sunday afternoon. You’ll enjoy that…

Ooh, I’ll check it out when I have my duvet day… so you’re also getting behind the launch of the new Sony Ericsson W995 Pink by hosting a speed dating event, what’s going to happen there then?

Matt: It’s a bit of fun really, we’re going to go down there and give away a load of new phones as the new Sony Ericsson W995 Pink is coming out which is exclusive to The Carphone Warehouse and someone said “let’s do speed dating” and we though why not! I’ve never been before and Darren’s never been before so we thought we’d see what happens and get people talking.

Aww, I need to get involved, it’s Valentines and I’m going to be eating an entire tray of Thorntons Chocolates and watching PS. I Love You… but what if hundreds of girls turn up but only about 50 men?

Matt: Well then it will be very different…

Darren: Well it’s not just a speed dating event, we’re going to invite couples to take part in Mr & Mrs competitions too.

Oh wow, I wish I was in London, I can get a phone AND a man AND watch Mr & Mrs…

Darren: well I actually think it’s coming all the way from Daresbury [Where Ruth FF lives] to London.

Yes! It needs to come to my local pub… either The Viper Lounge or Evenwood Farm.

Matt: Bring it on, we’re sort it out. Is it the one opposite the church? That’s where Max got married.

Darren: The Church on the way from Warrington to Daresbury, it’s on.

Woo! It’s so exciting I love it, it’s like we’re neighbours. I can’t wait, I need a new boyfriend and a new phone, so the Sony Ericsson W995 Pink is clearly the way forward, thanks for talking to me about it boys!
