Mark Wahlberg wants his children to "be kind to each other".
The 45-year-old actor carries a permanent criminal record due to an assault he carried out at the age of 16 when he hit a Vietnamese man in the head with a stick while trying to steal alcohol. He was convicted for the crime and served 45 days of his two-year sentence in an adult prison due to the severity of the attack and the racist language he used.
Wahlberg has four children - Ella, 13, Michael, nine, Brendan, seven, and Grace, six - with his model wife Rhea Durham and he is determined to instil in them the right values and when they're older he will discuss with them his tough teenage years growing up in Boston, which included abusing drugs from the age of just 13.
In an interview with ES Magazine, he said: "I want them to learn that if you're good and you do good, then good things happen and if you lie or you get in trouble and try to cover it up with a lie, there's a snowball effect ... you have to be responsible, talk nice, be kind to each other, clean up behind yourself. When they get a little older, I'll tell them where I've come from and what I've had to do to overcome some pretty big odds."
The 'Ted' actor grew up very poor but now worries that he spoils his own children now he has the money to do so, but despite their lavish lifestyle he insists they're "pretty grounded" kids
Wahlberg - who was the youngest of nine children - said: "You know it's funny, where else but in America can you turn your life around in one generation, going from nothing to worrying about your kids being too spoiled? But they see where I've come from and they're pretty grounded."
In his down time, the 'Transformers: Age of Extinction' actor likes to play golf, and has recently formed a friendship with his chauffeur Liam over the sport, even inviting the driver to play with the star in California.
He said: "I called [Liam] and said, 'Dude, come to Pebble Beach (in Northern California) with me to play golf.' He thought I was just saying it! Anyway, his wife gave him permission, he flew down and stayed at my house; we played golf here and then we went up to Monterey and played golf at Pebble Beach and Spyglass - all these great courses - and we had a blast.' We're going to St Andrew's to play more golf, I can't wait.' "
