A meteoric rise, they said
And hailed their Hero hoisted high upon
Their shoulders, make him greater than themselves
An easy thing for them to do.
They never knew the truth? That meteors fall?
And when they fall upon the Earth they fall
As meteorites and create craters shaped by
Stranded shards from space,
Of which he has enough between his ears,
That never listens anyhow or anywhere
Behind his eyes of fulfilled failure to
Perceive these people
Tumbling down the steep slopes of ambitions
Hole, to mix with darkened debris in the
Night, this fool who tried to catch a falling
Star and burned his hands with hurt applause,
Standing ovation called for in this pit
Of blackness, for small lights beckon darkness
To be seen, and glimmer falsely on such
Blackgrounds, draw dark fools
Around them like a cloak of folly, fills
Up full this dark-wrought hole and rises free
To be extinguished by the dawn of
Understanding in the sun
That shows this light to cast a shadow all
Its own, is now eclipsed, now gone, and much
Enlightened then, we see, we breathe, and soon
Perceive the underlying truths held in
Shadows long that wither, wilt, and die,
Like too dry insects in the sun. We cry,
We’ve won, we’ve won this day! But not for all
For some will cower in corners.
