A surfer has become the third person attacked by a shark at a favourite Florida beach.
The 28-year-old man - whose name was not made public by authorities- was bitten by the sea predator at roughly 11:43am while riding the waves at New Smyrna Beach.
Captain Alex Miller from the Volusia County Beach Ocean Rescue said that he suffered minor injuries on his left foot after falling from his board while surfing near a jetty. The individual was admitted to a local hospital for care by his friend for his non-life threatening condition.
This incident comes after two others were bitten by sharks along the same section of coastline in the spring. Two men - a fisherman and a surfer who were also in their 20s - endured chomps from a shark on their feet and legs in March. Both men’s injuries were not considered to be life-threatening.
However, last week, Addison Bethea, 17, was less lucky as she was lost a part of her leg after a nine-foot shark grabbed a hold of her while she searched for scallops on Keaton Beach in the same state, according to reports.
