Mum's the word: new survey reveals mum is the most beautiful person in our lives.

Move aside stunning supermodels, new research from lip care experts Blistex this week reveals that being mum equals being beautiful. A quarter (25%) of women polled considered their mum to be the most beautiful person in their life, above their partner, best friends, and siblings. And feeling beautiful isn’t just limited to the mums out there, when it comes to feeling beautiful ourselves, 14% of women polled said their mum had the ability to make them feel beautiful too.

However, we all know that women are still suckers for male attention when it comes to affirming their beauty – and lip-locking action tops a poll of beauty boosts. Non-PC male approval techniques such as the wolf-whistle have even beaten the traditional shopping spree for putting a spring in the step of British babes.

Sex comes third in the list of beauty boosters but kissing and compliments from other halves, builders’ wolf-whistles and admiring glances from strangers all make women feel the most beautiful according to Blistex who commissioned the study to support its Beautiful Feeling advertising campaign.

The Top 10 beauty boosters for women from across the UK are:

A lover’s kiss (58%) New underwear (48%) Sex (41%) Wolf whistles (41%) Bubble baths (38%) A shopping spree (33%) New shoes (28%) A splash of lipstick (22%) A hard gym workout (14%) A chocolate fix (12%)

The findings reveal some fascinating regional insights with babes from Brighton twice as likely as those from Glasgow to cite sex as top of their ‘feel good’ list; whilst two thirds more women from Belfast admit a wolf-whistle puts a spring in their step than City chicks from London. For the over 55s a bubble bath beats a romantic rendezvous whilst teens and twenty-somethings claim the gym, not a chocolate fix gives them the biggest kick.

Does my bum look big in this?

Blistex also unearthed the factors that can leave women feeling frumpy. Weight gain topped the list for almost half surveyed, 15% cited a bad hair day and 1 in 10 admitted cracked lips and cold sores made them want to hide away. Lack of sex was a complaint of just a tiny 3%!

Blistex brand manager, Nick Lang, said: “This research allows us a peek into what boosts women’s confidence. Little did we know something as simple as a passionate kiss could be enough to make the women in our lives feel so beautiful. We just want to help women’s lips stay in tip top condition for all those kisses they desire!”
