What would make your life more beautiful? Winning the lottery, Victoria Beckham’s wardrobe (and husband) or a pair of new shoes? Well if you answered yes to any of these then you are in the minority, because an increasing number of women are discovering it’s the simple pleasures that are making our lives more beautiful.
Tough times are bringing about a change in our priorities and four in ten women who responded to a survey by Nivea, say that they are finding themselves appreciating the simple things more than last year. For instance, 56% are taking up cooking and 49% are joining book clubs and reading more.
More than a third felt that having their efforts recognised and appreciated by their boss would add beauty to their working lives, while just 15% say that a pay rise would do the same thing. Similarly, with relationships the winning formula, according to women, is for their men to spend more time with them, telling them how much they care, taking them breakfast in bed once in a while or simply making them a cup of tea when they get home from work. Men across the country can breathe a sigh of relief as a staggering 61% of women quizzed said it was these little gestures that ‘make life more beautiful’ while only 2% would rather have expensive gifts.
Getting back to nature, even in small ways, is also becoming more popular with over a quarter of respondents to the survey stating that gardening and growing your own produce is an ideal way to go about it while 59% feel that going for a walk makes them feel better.
These simple pleasures are replacing nights out, new clothes and holidays but not health and beauty regimes - just 5% of women admit to cutting back on this.
Sarah Carter from Nivea says: "Our survey shows it’s the little things that are making the difference to people right now and inner beauty is making a come back. In the current climate I'm sure this comes as welcome news to husbands, boyfriends and bosses across the country too!"
