We may give little thought to the wedding traditions from the rest of the world, when ours are so commonplace and engrained into our planning process. But when we find out what other cultures do on or around their wedding day- it becomes apparent that ours must sound as unfamiliar and surprising to people from around the globe as theirs do to us.
Mexico- Brides sometimes carry a second bouquet as a tribute to the Virgin Mary.
Korea- Grooms give their mothers-in-law a wooden goose to symbolise their intent to be monogamous.
Germany- Newlyweds show their compatibility for one another by cutting a log together- not a cake- a log.
India- Brides are decorated with Henna patterns on their hands and forearms.
Italy- Wedding confetti is not bits of paper but sugared almonds that are given to the guests prior to the ceremony.
Pakistan- Grooms wear a necklace of flowers.
China- Brides are escorted to the ceremony in a Sedan Chair.
Scotland- The married couples are covered with ash, flour and feathers after being liquored up. Called Blackening- this happened before the ceremony and is said to fend off evil spirits.
