Katherine Hudson, founder of The Arabian Tent Company supplies high end decorative marquees for weddings, events and festivals and she has some insights into what to expect from weddings this year. Or what you can steal to add to your own!
Traditionally English
Whether it’s afternoon tea, the sound of a cricket game in the distance or strawberries and cream for dessert- people are filtering their favourite, quintessential aspects of shows like Downton Abbey and the romanticism of an Austin novel into their big day. The brides will be the perfect English rose, exposing their naturally pale complexions and British manners.
Something Different
There is a plethora of options when it comes to keeping your guests’ bellies full with food offerings at weddings. So why not give them a surprise when it comes to the food? A mini finger buffet with all your fast food favourites, a unique-to-your-wedding-day-cocktail-mix served in jam jars, or even an ice cream or sweetie cart for dessert?
DIY
We all know that without proper supervision and some imagination- weddings can well exceed their budget. So it takes everyone involved to prevent overspend- like handmade garlands from your mother in law, homemade invitations by the bride and groom, a bit of baking from the mother of the bride. It’s all hands on deck to make it personal, unique and cheap. Informal and unconventional weddings are in- pretentious and expensive are out.
Green is the colour to be seen in
Using inexpensive herbs and flowers make a great addition to table decorations, and give the impression of being outdoors without tackling the elements. Some twigs running along the tables and topiary encourage people look upwards, making the room look bigger.
Industrial chic
Modern spaces are a blank canvas for you to personalise with the bride and grooms initials in lights for example. Exposed brickwork looks great with some fairy lights or candles to bring out the warming tones in the wall. For couples who enjoy simple, minimalist décor choices- this might be the venue for you.
