If you're planning a wedding, chances are you'll have the age-old debate about whether or not you're going to ask your guests to attend with or without their children. While some may decide to politely mention younger ones aren't to attend, others will want to make sure the children are welcome, but kept out of mischief on the day. If you do decide to involve little ones on your big day, we've teamed up with leading children's wear company Vertbaudet to create the following top tips to help things run smoothly.

1) Get them involved

Kids just love being at the centre of attention for a moment; have you considered having a flower girl or page boy on your big day? Having a special role to play in your wedding can help give little ones the responsibility it takes to keep them occupied and out of trouble!

2) Help them understand

While getting children to sit and listen might seem impossible, having a go at explaining to them just how special this day is, and how very important it is that they're on their best behaviour may just put you in good stead for a day without the misbehaving. This way, they'll understand what's happening during the ceremony, and will be less likely to ask a million questions during it!

3) Add a little sparkle

While planning your wedding, have the little ones help you out with a little decoration. That way, on the day itself they can admire their work and feel proud that they've helped to put something so special together. They'll be chatting about their efforts for weeks!

4) Get inventive with the favours

Wedding favours are a treat for any guest, but planning a little extra something for the children's gifts can keep them quiet and occupied throughout the speeches. You could include a small puzzle, a story book or their favourite character - personalised presents are sure to make them happy.

5) Include them in the cake!

This may not be favourable for everyone, but if your children are part of the day, what better way to include them than to have their very own figurines sat upon your wedding cake with you? Once the cake's been cut, they'll have their own personalised toy to play with too.

The Vertbaudet blog is full of handy tips and ideas for parents, so if you're looking for advice on anything from craft ideas for children to how to dress your baby bump, or even decorating your little one's bedroom - there's plenty of inspiration!
