So many people get engaged over the holidays and it’s considered to be one of the best presents a girl can get. But a lot of the time your other half could need a little push in the right direction. So here are a few tips for giving him a slight nudge.
Don’t scare him off:
Try not to talk too much about weddings before he’s actually proposed. This could cause him to panic and overthink things. Imagine, if you’re constantly going on about this designer dress you want, the perfect venue and how much the catering is going to cost… Unless he’s got as much money as Kanye West put into his proposal to Kim Kardashian, chances are your extravagant plans could freak him out just a little.
Drop a few hints:
Without running the risk of sounding like a broken record make sure you drop a few hints so that he knows that you do actually want to get married. It would be a good start for you both to be on the same page.
Have an honest conversation:
You need to know where you both see your future. Is it together? If not then it’s probably a good idea to rethink your plans. If he can’t see you in his future now and you’re thinking about getting married then the warning lights should be going off in your head. If he makes it clear that he isn’t sure about marriage that isn’t to say you have to pack your bags and head for the door but you definitely need to take things a little slower.
Book a romantic getaway:
Sometimes all a boy needs is a little encouragement. He might be panicking about when or how to propose so why not give him the perfect setting and book a romantic night away somewhere to help him out.
Mention the ring:
The main thing that a guy panics about when it comes to proposing is how to get the right ring. Most men have absolutely no idea when it comes to jewellery so best to give him a little inspiration. Try picking up a catalogue from your local jewellers and leave it lying around the house. Or if somebody you know has recently got engaged talk to him about it. What is more subtle than you saying: “I just love her ring, isn’t it gorgeous?” before giving a few details and maybe even showing him a picture.
If these tips fail, you could always try abstaining from sex until he gets down on one knee. I’m sure he’ll get the message pretty quick that way. I’m kidding of course, although it could work!
