Spelling married McDermott, less than a month after her divorce to Charlie Shanian was finalised, on a private island in Wakaya, Fiji. Guests included Spelling's former co-stars from 90210- Jason Priestley, Naomi Lowde-Priestly, Tiffani Thiessen and Brady Smith.

McDermott separated from his previous wife following his alleged affair with Spelling. They met on the set of the Lifetime TV movie Mind Over Murder in Ottowa and supposedly began having an affair the same night they met, despite both having spouses.
The pair renewed their vows on May 8th in Beverly Hills and the couple now parent McDermott's kids Jack and Lola. They have four children together: Liam, Finn, Stella and Hattie.

In January 2014, McDermott entered rehab for "some health and personal issues," according to his publicist. He released a statement saying that he was "truly sorry for the mistakes I have made and for the pain I've caused my family."
