Organising a wedding is one of the most important times in a girl’s life – never mind the most stressful. But what about those trusty bridesmaids who have to plan the hen do of the century for their busy bride?
First things first you need to find out who your bride wants to invite. This is a must. You don’t want to invite somebody that she doesn’t want there; awkward would be an understatement for that. Once you know who she wants to invite you can get an idea for what kind of hen do she wants as more often than not if she wants her mum and mother-in-law there you may have to tone things down a little. Don’t worry strippers are acceptable just maybe make sure the older guests would be ok with that… And the bride obviously!
Next thing would be to start deciding when the hen do is going to be – brace yourself for this one as it can be tricky to accommodate everyone. Try to get the hen do as near to the actual wedding as possible but it isn’t recommended that you have it the night before. A hungover bride wouldn’t be great and I’m sure the groom wouldn’t thank you for that.
Now you can get down to thinking of some ideas. Spa breaks are always a great idea, especially if you’re looking for something a little more mum friendly. And you could always plan a spa break that’s in a central location so that after your relaxing pamper day you can hit the town. You could always take a cocktail making class at one of the local bars around where you plan to go, they’re really popular at the minute and it’s a great way of mixing some alcoholic beverages with something a bit more structured than your standard bar crawl. If you’re not into drinking you could always go for afternoon tea somewhere, this is another trend that’s really popular at the minute and the miniature scones and finger sandwiches are just so cute!
Don’t forget you need to ask the bride how much of a part she wants to play in the hen do, whether she’s a control freak and wants to plan every single part or whether she wants it all to be a surprise, you need to remember that this – apart from the wedding – is probably one of the most important days of her life, so be nice with your plans. You might find it hilarious to have her dressed as a giant hen but she probably won’t thank you for that.
Finally, remember to come up with some way of creating something for the bride to help her reminisce about her special day. Scrapbooks, Pinterest boards or even just a Facebook album are always a great place to start.
Make sure you take loads of pictures throughout the hen do, but don't forget to let the bride check them all out before you upload them. The groom might not want to see his wife-to-be drooling over the stripper you booked for her.
