Leading wedding planner Mark Niemierko creates first ever wedding guide for beer lovers.
To help inspire couples across the country, AB InBev has commissioned leading wedding planner Mark Niemierko to create the ultimate wedding guide for beer lovers, by incorporating beer into nuptials in the most elegant of ways. The guide offers a range of ideas, from small scale tips to all out show stopping stunts that are destined to create a truly unique wedding experience.
In fact, the term bridal is a corruption of 'Bride-ale' which refers to a specially brewed beer that newly married couples would make and gift to guests at their reception, similar to a modern day favour.*
Here are some of Mark's top tips from the beer wedding guide:
- Create a really unique save the date card by sending a customised beer mat. You can follow this up by sending invites on a personalised label on a beer bottle with details in a scroll inside.
- For your guests who are visiting from out of town, create guides and leave them in their hotel rooms. Include tips on good local pubs and sights such as breweries, as well as including local beer as a refreshment for the rooms.
- English countryside weddings are currently really popular. A perfect and elegant way to achieve a rustic yet elegant look is to add dried barley or fresh hops to flower arrangements. You can also add vintage beer crates for seating or sign your vows using a beer barrel for a table.
- Incorporate beer by using personalised beer caps or coasters to present information, instead of traditional escort cards. Even better, use bottles of beer as escort cards so that guests can enjoy a drink while they find their seats.
- Favours are a really scalable way to incorporate your favourite drink into your special day. From colourful beer steins for decorating tables and personalised beer labels to visiting a brewery to make your own 'Mr and Mrs' Brew, beer can be added in many ways.
- If your husband-to-be is not a fan of Champagne, serve beer during the wedding speeches. Ditch the bottles and serve beer to your guests in tasteful chalices so that the guests can toast the happy couple. There are many elegant beers with signature glassware, such as Leffe which has a cork and foil top.
- Serve miniatures of your beloved British food, such as mini roast beef and Yorkshire puddings, as quirky canapés. Pair these with your favourite beers, so that when trying each canapé, your guests can also try a new beer match.
- Create a delicious wedding cake using beer as a key ingredient. Serve a chocolate wedding cake made using a stout for a decadent treat that will leave guests talking.
- Add a contemporary twist to traditional, seasonal drinks. For example, if your wedding is at Christmas, serve your guests a warming mulled ale.
- The wedding breakfast is the most obvious, and easiest, place to include beer. When attending your tastings ensure there are a range of beers available so that you can pair your favourites as you would wine. For example an ale goes really well with beef and barbequed meats, sour beers with charcuterie, pale ales with fish and cheese, and chocolate or coffee flavoured Stouts make an ideal alternative to dessert wine. If you're unsure, seek advice from a beer sommelier.
Mark Niemierko says: 'Beer and weddings have such a unique history and there are so many ways to incorporate beer naturally into a wedding, from creating your own "bride-ale" party favours to hosting a wedding beer breakfast with matching beer and food. I know how important it is for couples to create a celebration that is unique and personal so I'm thrilled to share my tips on how to make a wedding truly stand out, by using one of the nation's favourite beverages for inspiration.'
