For the normal folk, your wedding is the most showy day of your life. You want everyone to know about it and talk about it for months before, and months after.
This wasn't the same for the celebrity couples in 2012, they were desperate to keep the biggest day of their lives a top secret operation.
One of the most shocking, and surprising weddings of this year was the wedding of Giovanni Ribisi and Agyness Deyn.
They married in June in a super secret and intimate ceremony. When we heard the news, our first question was 'since when were they even dating?'.
Their marriage has already been tipped as the weddings most likely to end the quickest, so we shall see if they make it through to next year.
Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied weren't quite as secretive when they married in August. They had 100 guests which included some of their closest celeb pals.
It was a traditional Jewish ceremony, held on a private residence in California. Natalie wore a lovely, yet untraditional dress and Ben wore a midnight blue suit.
In September Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds tied the knot in South Carolina. The couple had been dating for only a year when they married in a private ceremony.
Their union shocked the world as not many knew they were dating, let alone how serious they were as they rarely made appearances together.
Blake has a custom made dress and shoes and Florence, from Florence and the Machine was rumoured to have sang at the wedding.
Cat Deeley and Patrick Kielty were another couple to wed secretly this year. The pair married in Rome in September and managed to keep their plans from the press until after the event!
Another couple to tie the knot in Italy were Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel. The couple married in a private ceremony that managed to remain top secret.
Jessica even admitted recently that it was a nightmare to keep the wedding a secret and said it was like a CIA operation
Evan Rachel Wood and Jamie Bell had their fair share of hard times in their relationship, which resulted in a brief split which saw Evan date Marilyn Manson.
She regained her senses and her and Jamie put aside their differences and got back together. They married in a private ceremony in October in California.
So now the celebs have done it, should we expect to see an influx of secret weddings in 2013?
