Firstly, how important is love and marriage to you?
I will say that yes, love is important to me, but it goes much deeper than emotions and feelings. Simply put, love, in its purest form, ties people together in a way that we support each other and share our experiences of life. Marriage is a celebration of that.
As a wedding photographer, can you tell us a little bit about your role in the event from start to finish?
My role as a wedding photographer goes past capturing memories of the big day! I become good friends with many of my clients as we have to be as comfortable with each other as possible to capture the best images that we can! We laugh and joke, I help settle nerves, even run errands and fit button holes! So much goes on behind the scenes, that it would take far to much space on this interview to explain even a little!!
Why the name Whimsy Art?
My brand and portfolio had to go hand in hand. The name Whimsy Art is the first impression of my business that potental clients come across and it has to reflect my shooting and editing style and it has to stand out from the crowd. Whimsy Art, is just that. My style is care free, whistful and romantic and photography is an art in itself.
What made you decide to branch off into this particular type of photography?
I know it sounds cliché but weddings are just so romantic and girly!! There is so much to shoot and the atmosphere is always amazing! Each event is so unique to the couple and I have fun shooting to reflect that!
Which element of the wedding do you most like to photograph?
I really enjoy taking the Bride and Groom away from the hustle and bustle of the event for some photos. It gives them a chance to be alone as Mr and Mrs. These moments are always very beautiful to capture as they have raw emotion and intimacy attached to them. Alongside that, I enjoy capturing the little details such as table placings, the cake, Decor etc etc.
How does it make you feel to be involved in someone's big day?
Aw I love it! To the point where I have actually been as moved as other guests by emotional speeches and vows! I am always made to feel very much as part of the family and genuinely get swept away in the events! It brings out the best in my work!
How much pressure do you feel to get everything just perfect?
I won't lie, there is a lot of pressure! It may be "just another wedding" for the photographer/venue/florist, but for that couple, 'It is their wedding" and I shoot each wedding as if its my first! Wedding photos are a lasting reminder of that one day, and I play huge and integral part. I always honoured to shoot weddings and get excited about every one!
Of all the weddings you have attended, which has been the most inspiring for you?
Truthfully, each one is as inspiring as the next! They each bring there own challenges which gets my creative juices flowing!
You had a themed wedding yourself, is this something that you are finding people are doing more of than a traditional ceremony?
Weddings are certainly becoming less 'stuffy" and more reflective of peoples personality. I often see subtle themes running through the event, from snowflakes right through to springtime watering cans! It helps make the day I think! Im yet to shoot my first 'full on' themed wedding, but look forward to the day that I do!!
Your website boasts many new concepts for weddings, which is your favourite?
A rustic/vintage wedding would be my absolute favourite! This style is so yummy! I love the different textures, the warm but soft tones, the little details and trinkets! Gosh I could go nuts shooting a wedding like that!
What is the best feedback you have received for your work?
I'm happy to say that I have made people cry! (In a good way of course) It's the best compliment any photographer could recieve!
Can you tell us what you have lined up for this summer?
My next wedding is being held at Cranage Hall and after that I have a marquee wedding being held for an art teacher whom is having a big part in decorating the event! I will also be adding a new concept to my wedding photography later this year! Im excited by it, but keeping the plans close to my chest!!
From all the couples you have met and seen wed, what is the best piece of advice for a happy wedding day you could give?
Take some time out. The day goes so fast and is over before you know it. Go and look at your cake, see your table decorations. The hard work has paid off but make sure you get to enjoy it!
