Would You Have A Private Wedding?

When coming up with your wedding plans it’s often difficult to know who to invite and where to hold it. Do you keep it small and special or go big and bold?

Geeta Randev, Chief Wedding Consultant and former Wedding Planner at WeddingSite, says, “There is always so much controversy over whether it’s better to have a private wedding, or one that is more of a ‘show’.

“The fact is – there is no right or wrong and the choice is down to the happy couple getting married. Regardless as to whether the ceremony is small and intimate, or a big show – they will remain the centre of attention on their big day.”

Geeta isn’t surprised that Natalie Portman chose to keep her wedding private, and is of the opinion that weddings should be a private matter.

She says, “Natalie Portman, by nature, seems like a private person. We don’t see her vying for column inches with set-up paparazzi shots – so it came as no surprise to me that she would opt to keep her wedding under wraps.

“I am of the opinion that weddings should remain private. And by that, I mean ensuring that those you invite as guests are people you know that you want to join in with your celebrations.”

The masses of celebrity weddings that we are now seeing are creating pressure for couples to have the wow factor at their weddings; something that Geeta believes is also fuelling wedding competition.

She says, “More often than not – I get the sense that couples wanting to impress their guests, is the most important aspect of their day – and that’s okay.  But, it is an added pressure, and the influence of big celebrity weddings, and competing with weddings of their own friends, feeds into it.”

Whatever type of wedding you’re hoping for, you want it to look and feel perfect whilst making it look like it was effortless to pull off.

“Weddings should ooze the personalities of the happy couple,” says Geeta, “But not be so OTT so that you don’t come across as show-offs.”

“You want your guests to be wowed at the effort made for your big day – but get the sense that it was effortless for you to pull off.

“It’s one of the reasons we place so much emphasis on planning – and our free online planning tools are geared towards helping couples achieve their perfect day, without the stress.”

At the end of the day, Geeta is still a fan of more private weddings as she believes it creates a relaxed atmosphere and allows the bride and groom to enjoy their day.

She says, “More intimate weddings tend to encourage a more relaxed nature by guests – and that, no doubt, will add to how much fun, they and the hosts will have during the big day.”

Would you follow in Natalie Portman’s footsteps or are you more inclined to have a Kim Kardashian style wedding?
