As we approach World Vegetarian Day on Saturday, Elite Singles looked into the vegetarians vs meat eaters when it comes to dating.
Most surprisingly, if a veggie were to make their partner choose between them or the meat, results found that 65% would choose the meat! It appears that sausages are more important than a significant other to some daters.
The results revealed that the exception is in the way a veggie partner asks their lover to make the change. If a vegetarian asked their partner politely to try some meat free options- nearly half would. 32% would be so kind as to give up eating meat in front of them and 16% would be prepared to never eat it again if it meant that much to their partner.
Sadly, of the meat eaters questioned- many of them assume that dating a veggie means giving up on their favourite eating habits. 20% even fear that a plant-based partner might try to convert them, when in fact; only 3% would try to change their partner's mind. Admittedly, 31% would like it if their partner ate less meat- but the majority (66%), think that it's not their place to control what their partner eats.
As a veggie who's married to a meat eater, I have to agree with the latter- it's all down to personal choice.
But how do the findings differ when it's a vegan vs a meat eater? Food aside, it's possible that vegans have a bigger appetite for sex than veggies and meat eaters. 80% of vegans believe that they have a high sex drive compared to their counterparts. So, even if dating a vegan is not what you imagined in a partner- chances are you will have regular sex.
The findings suggest that Brits are quite open minded about veggie dating, with 29% having no problem dating someone with different dietary preferences. This, may not seem like a lot but this is compared to France and Hungary where only 15% would be open to the idea.
Brits do fall behind the Spanish however, as 39% would prefer to date someone who doesn't eat meat.
