Spider PR kindly sent us over a bag of the new Tyrrells Sweet Chilli My Sweet Potato Crisps to try so we just had to share our thoughts!
This snack is suitable for vegans, free from gluten and has no artificial ingredients- so we're off to a good start.
Sweet potatoes seem to be everywhere right now- you can get them at most restaurants, get them whole, in frozen or fresh chip form, mashed, diced, in soup, cottage pie and in bags of vegetable crisps so it was only a matter of time before they were let loose on their own as a snack.
Tyrrells always get it right with their packing- anyone who's a fan of retro black and white pictures will be happy with this offering- we all need a bit of humour when we're snacking so we don't focus on the muffin tops we are giving ourselves by doing it.
To be fair if my fella turned dup with a bag of sweet potato crisps I would be over the moon so the image is not far wrong- and presumably other foodies will appreciate the sentiment too.
The crisps smell amazing- you really get a whiff of all the added spices and flavourings that give them their unique taste and they have retained their bright orange colour which makes you feel all summery- let's face it.
Even though they are chilli flavoured, there is just enough spice- not too much and not too little- sorry to sound like Goldilocks but it's true.
Tyrrells crisps have toughness about them so you know they are high quality and you are eating an upmarket crisp. They are a bit curlier than normal crisps- but really does it matter? If they taste great- that's all that counts.
These orange bits of loveliness are a little on the expensive side at £2.49 for a shared bag, however I can only think of one other brand that do sweet potato crisps sans any other vegetables so you are going to pay a bit more when they are still fairly new to the market. Such is life.
We all agreed in the office that we would buy them again, so clearly the price isn't that off-putting- in fact I am partial to a bag on movie night at home instead of popcorn- they're just as moreish, but I feel like I'm getting one of my five a day.
