I tend to shop in Asda, so I had no idea what vegan goodies were in store in Sainsbury's. That was, until I came across a mention of these meatballs on a vegan Slimming World page on Facebook. I was overjoyed to find some soya mince that isn't made from eggs (and clearly marked up as vegan) so I had to go and buy some to try them for myself.

Sainsbury's Meat-free Meat Balls 380g

There are around 20 meatballs in a bag and I was feeling greedy so I made them all! They only take 15 minutes in the oven at 190 so they're ready in no time. I served mine with a simple salad, although, next time I plan to throw them in a tomato based sauce and whip up a heap of spaghetti to have them as they were intended.

Unlike other meat free convenience foods I have tried, these hold together really well and don't stick to the tray at all. I served them with a dollop of tomato sauce and dunked each one!

They really do have a meaty flavour about them so if you are missing the taste of meat but don't want the cruelty- these are ideal for you- or even if you are transitioning to veganism. The herbs give a mild but interesting addition to the flavour so they are not just hunks of plain soya mince- they do taste as close as you are going to get to the real thing.

At only £1.50, they come in at less than the brand leader so I think they are value for money and I will be making regular trips to get them again to substitute my normal supermarket shop.

You can easily get two servings out of them if you are sharing your meal with a partner or family, you don't have to overindulge like me so one bag can go further than one person, especially if you are serving it with sauce and spaghetti.

Overall, I was really impressed with the meatballs- they are inexpensive, tasty AND versatile- Sainsbury's has hit the trifecta with these!
