I was delighted when I found out that Quorn were releasing a couple of vegan products. For vegans and veggies who can't eat eggs it was a dream come true.

Another plus point is that the Hot and Spicy Burgers are not created from soya but mycoprotein which is made from mushrooms so those who allergic to soya can rejoice too.

As a Slimming Wold member, I was worried about their syn content but they are only 2 syns per burger, which is great for a convenience food and for your diet as well.

The protein content is also a bonus as there is about 10g per burger so around a quarter of your daily-recommended intake if you are struggling to find it elsewhere.

The burgers themselves are large rounds, however they are quite flat, so my immediate thought was that they wouldn't have a lot of flavour. How wrong I was. They have a real kick to them so if you are a vegan who likes their food spicy, this won't disappoint.

One patty makes the ideal accompaniment to chips, in a bun with some salad and tomato sauce. I usually eat one with a heap of veggies-a healthier option for those who are losing weight or calorie conscious.

As there are four in a pack one box will last you for four meals and ideal if you want something fast and easy as they only take around half an hour in the oven. It costs £2.50 for a box in Asda at the moment- at around 76p a portion they are not massively overpriced like some vegan alternatives.

My partner is a meat eater and meaty burgers generally take around the same time to cook so you can eat your meal together- and as all you vegans dating non-vegans will know- this is a rarity.

The one thing to look out for is the salt and fat content, which are classed as a 'medium'- so if you eat one make sure you're not loading the rest of your plate with salty, fatty food and you should get a lovely balance to your meal.

Overall, I was really impressed with these burgers and I have bought them every time I have gone for my fortnightly shop since they were launched. They lack the moisture of a chicken or beef burger but it just means your plate and your bread bun aren't dripping with fat. No-one likes a moist bread bun- let's face it.

Well worth a try if you are pushed for time and want a meal that takes little difference in time to prepare from a non-vegan option.
