With eight dogs, 4 cats, 9 horses, 2 donkeys, 2 goats and 8 chickens- Katherine Heigl has been a lifelong animal lover- so we take a look at what she's done to help the voiceless among us.
Best Friends Animal Society- She worked with this society on many different projects, which included her 'Pup My Ride' program. This takes small dogs from high-kill animal shelters to other parts of the country where the demand for rescue dogs is high.
Grant- She gave the Best Friends Animal Society a grant to fund the program for a year.
Heigl's Hounds of Hope- Heigl and her mum Nancy set this up which was created in honour of Heigl's brother who was killed in a car crash in 1986 when he was just 15. The foundation rescues bigger dogs that have behavioural problems from shelters with a high kill rate. Then they are rehabilitated so they can be rehomed.
Presidential Service Award- Heigl was given this award for her work and dedication to animal welfare in 2010.
'I hate balls'- In 2011; she launched the 'I Hate Balls' campaign, which promoted the spaying and neutering of pets to save the lives of millions of companion animals.
PETA- In 2012, she signed a letter to members of the Utah legislature asking that they reject the law that would criminalise undercover filming in factory farms.
