The UK’s leading health-retailer has launched a new range of vegan ice creams just in time for bank holiday weekend, when temperatures are expected to reach 20 degrees in some parts of the UK[i].
Veganism is fast becoming one of the most popular lifestyle choices in the UK, with 540,000 people now estimated to follow the plant-based lifestyle[ii].
And these half a millions Brits will be happy to hear that a dairy-free ice cream has launched across a number of high-street stores nationwide.
Exclusive to Holland & Barrett, the range of vegan and organic ice creams come in three tempting flavours.
Sweet and tangy Passion Fruit and indulgent Peanut Butter use a coconut-base instead of dairy, whilst the Salted Caramel variety uses avocado – meaning ice cream now officially grows on trees!
Starting as a simple toast-topping, avocado now appears in everything from coffee to Easter eggs, even getting its own emoji at the end of 2018.
“Avocado and coconut act as the perfect alternatives to dairy in ice cream, bringing a host of health benefits to the range,” says Amy Tolofari, Nutritionist at Holland & Barrett.
“Avocado’s buttery texture means you get the same creamy consistency as you would expect from normal ice cream, with none of the dairy.”
The Salted Caramel variety proves lowest in calories, at just 103 calories per serving (125ml), followed closely by Passion Fruit flavour at 108 calories per serving, and Peanut Butter at 138 calories per serving.
“At under 150 calories per serving, these vegan ice creams make the perfect feel-good summer treat” says Louise Broom, food category manager at Holland & Barrett.
The range offers a welcome vegan alternative to other brand favourites such as Halo Top, whose low-calorie tubs have been flying off shelves since their launch six months ago.
Google searches for ‘Vegan ice-cream’ have almost doubled in the past two years[iii], with the trend only set to increase in popularity.
Holland & Barrett is committed to reducing waste on all of its own brand products, with the new ice cream range featuring a sealable top that reduces the amount of packaging needed per tub.
The tubs are already proving popular with vegans across the UK, being shared on popular plant-based social sites.
Holland & Barrett Vegan ice cream in Passion Fruit, Salted Caramel and Peanut Butter are available from Holland and Barrett stores nationwide at £3.99 per tub.
The range is currently on offer at Buy One Get One Half Price.
