Each tub of Booja Booja Chocolate Salted Caramel boasts just five ingredients- water, coconut syrup, cashew nuts, cocoa powder and sea salt. That’s all folks.
And with such few ingredients, it manages to pull off the flavour of the moreish Phish Food by Ben and Jerry’s. That’s right- if you are dairy intolerant, vegan, looking after your sugar intake or want to stick with organic ice cream- all while craving the taste of Phish Food, this is one for you.
My husband hasn’t been a huge fan of the all the flavours from Booja Booja but he gobbled this one up in no time because he said all that was missing were the little chocolate fishes. Had I not told him and just handed him a bowl of the stuff, he said he wouldn’t have been able to tell that it was a vegan ice cream. This is something I was thrilled about because it meant we could finally enjoy the same dessert together.
The ice cream is perfect for fans of the classic chocolate flavour- I mean you can’t go wrong with that! But the addition of the salted caramel that flows though it at regular intervals was an act of genius in my opinion. It’s gooey so it satisfyingly sticks to your teeth so you can suck the syrupy bits off later when you’re craving more. There is also just enough salt to give it a hint of savoury against the sweetness of the syrup so it’s not too sickly either. A perfectly balanced sweet treat.
I am not going to lie, between two of us- we devoured the whole tub in one sitting. Something I’m not proud of and something my waistline didn’t thank me for but on the plus side- testament to how good it is!
I thought I had found my favourite Booja Booja flavour but this has made me reconsider!
