I have to admit that Benecos wasn’t a brand that I was familiar with until I went vegan and started to research vegan and cruelty free brands.
One big plus point about this mascara is that it uses organic ingredients. Most cosmetics contain mineral oils, paraffins and silicones- none of which are natural for and normal to the body. And let’s face it you don’t want to be putting something near your eyes that isn’t natural- do you?
This product contains avocado oil, wheat protein and vitamin E, so it conditions the lashes as well as highlights them. It is also BDIH certified- which is essentially a seal of approval that this make-up only contains raw materials such as plant oils, fats, waxes, herbal extracts, essential and aromatic oils- making perfect for vegans.
The most noticeable thing for me about this mascara when I opened it was how large the brush was. I am not generally a fan of larger brushes however, this one does taper off at the end which means you can get into the corners of your eyes with ease.
It has neutral smell too so it’s pleasant when applying it and it doesn’t clump either even with extra application for a fuller look.
I always use eyelash curlers before mascara and one thing that irritates me most is the transfer of mascara onto the curler when I try to create a more dramatic look and repeat the process. This didn’t rub off onto the curler at all meaning I didn’t get an marks above my eyes after alternating between the two. The colour is called ‘Magic Black’ and I certainly saw a difference between the shade of my eyelashes against my eyebrows- I am naturally dark brown. So the colour is good and subtly highlights the eye without looking too obvious.
My lashes felt light after application- unlike other brands where you can feel the mascara weighing your lashes down. I didn’t know I was wearing this- making it perfect for work.
The biggest selling point for me is that it’s clearly marked as ‘vegan’- twice. It’s in the title and it’s also in the heart logo on the back. It seems like a minor point but it gives me- as the customer- peace of mind to see it before I apply it every day that it’s not a result of any harm to animals.
I would say that this is more a daytime mascara as it’s very natural and doesn’t give you the heavier, darker look that you might want to apply for a night out.
A quick search revealed that you can pick up this mascara for under a tenner online which isn’t bad for a product that is going to last you three months.
Overall, the mascara delivered in almost every way you would want an eye product to and it’s good value for money. The only thing I would add is a water resistance if I was to be really picky but I would happily buy this again.
