With WWE Monday Night Raw headed to London, England and the Prodigal Son Shane McMahon back in charge for yet another week, there were exciting matches throughout the latest edition of the longest running series in US television history, and some additions made to the upcoming pay-per-view Payback's match card.
Dean Ambrose opens the Asylum
The first official edition of The Ambrose Asylum took place at the beginning of Raw, with Shane McMahon becoming Dean's first ever guest. Before he could speak much to the show's host however, Kevin Owens interrupted before Sami Zayn and Chris Jericho followed.
The foursome's rivalries were about to get a whole lot more interesting, as Shane-O-Mac revealed Zayn would go up against Owens at Payback, whilst Ambrose would be taking on Jericho. He then booked crossover matches for that night's Raw, with Zayn vs. Jericho and Owens vs. Ambrose.
Chris Jericho defeats Sami Zayn
The Zayn-Jericho match-up served as the night's opening bout, with the rematch from Thursday's edition of Smackdown allowing both competitors to gain momentum at certain points in the match. Jericho locked in the Walls of Jericho at one point, but Zayn managed to fight back and deliver his DDT through the ropes onto the floor outside.
Despite his determination, Zayn was bettered by Jericho after a smartly timed rake to the eyes, before he delivering the Codebreaker and gained the three count for victory.
Enzo & Big Cass progress to the tag team tournament final
Facing off against The Dudley Boyz after spending the past few weeks berating them on the mics, Enzo & Big Cass put their money where their mouths are, defeating the veteran wrestlers in a fast-paced, high intensity match.
With Cassady sending his friend Enzo off the top rope with their finisher, the Rocket Launcher, the pair picked up the win and advanced to the final round of the tag team tournament, determining who will be the new number one contender for the WWE Tag Team Championships.
Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson attack Roman Reigns
Again despised by the crowd, Roman Reigns is getting a better heel reaction than most of the heels on the main roster at the moment, telling audiences that he is 'THE guy' before his Payback opponent and number one contender AJ Styles interrupted.
Both agreeing that what their match at Payback comes from is a mutual respect, an attack on Reigns isn't what the champ was expecting as Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson looked to help their former Bullet Club comrade Styles. Leaving the champion laid out, what comes next in this story is anybody's guess.
Baron Corbin continues to dominate
Hugely popular in the UK, London's crowd couldn't help but chant Fandango's theme music as he came out to the ring, but when he was going up against Baron Corbin who's riding a huge wave of success as of late, there was only ever going to be one result for this match up.
Dolph Ziggler watched on commentary, getting little to no pop, and after the match went for a cheap shot on Corbin who had just finished Fandango with the End of Days. Unfortunately for him, he timed his assault wrong and Corbin left him laid out.
Cesaro and The New Day defeat The Miz and The League of Nations
Signature moves were exchanged in this match before a Neutralizer to Sheamus meant Cesaro and The New Day left the ring victorious. Quite an odd match but an exciting one none-the-less, packed full of energy and leaving the King of Swing Cesaro looking stronger than ever.
Natalya, Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch and Paige defeat Charlotte, Naomi, Tamina and Summer Rae
Natalya continues to get her push during her current chase for the WWE Women's Championship, and it was in this match that she would be able to force current champion Charlotte to submit after locking in a Sharpshooter.
Announcing that Charlotte wouldn't be the only one with family in her corner during their Payback bout, the Queen of Harts revealed Bret Hart would be joining her for her title match. Could we see the new belt swap hands in just a couple of weeks?
The Vaudevillains advance to the tag team tournament final
Jey Uso continued to sell his shoulder injury throughout this match as The Vaudevillains took control early on, exploiting his weakness to gain advantage throughout.
The pair, new to the main roster delivering the Whirling Dervish before picking up the win, advancing to the tag team tournament number one contender finals, where they'll face Enzo & Big Cass.
Apollo Crews defeats Heath Slater
A strange stipulation was added to this match! If Crews didn't win, he would be forced to join the Social Outcasts. Luckily for him, he wouldn't join the jobber stable and took home the victory, cementing himself as one of the most dominant powerhouses in the WWE today.
Dean Ambrose defeats Kevin Owens
Again this was another match where momentum would shift at the turn of a dime, but it would be Ambrose who'd pick up the clean victory after delivering Dirty Deeds to his opponent.
It was what came after the match that had the crowd going crazy however, as Jericho stormed out to ambush his Payback opponent, landing a Codebreaker and closing out the show.
