Rugrats was one of the classic children's animated series that lit up small screens around the world during its incredible 16 year run from 1990. But what has happened to the voices behind the babies? And are they all really voiced by women? Read on to find out...
Elizabeth (E.G.) Daily - Tommy Pickles
Now 53-years-old, Elizabeth Daily didn't let her voice acting career die out with the retiring of Rugrats. Instead , she stuck her fingers into as many pies as possible, taking on some big roles in The Powerpuff Girls Rule!!! as Buttercup, The New Woody Woodpecker Show as Knothead and Sprocket in Skylanders: SWAP Force to name just three.
In the fall of 2013, Daily decided to engage in the world of singing and took part in the fifth season of NBC reality competition The Voice, choosing to be on Team Blake Shelton when both he and Cee Lo Green turned their chairs for her in her blind audition. Unfortunately, though she won her battle in the show's battle rounds she then bowed out of the competition before the live shows after singing Bonnie Raitt's 'I Can't Make You Love Me' in the knockout rounds.
Christine Cavanaugh - Chuckie Finster
As the worrisome toddler of the show, Cavanaugh brought a brilliance to her role as Chuckie and went on to voice the lead character in Babe as a pig. Following this however Cavanaugh decided to turn her back on her voice acting career in 2001 at the age of 38, returning to her home of Utah to be closer with her family and retiring from acting altogether two years later.
Sadly at the age of 51, Cavanaugh passed away in Cedar City, Utah on December 22, 2014. Her cause of death was not revealed.
Cheryl Chase - Angelica Pickles
Though she was one of the more prominent characters in Rugrats as the mischievous and often bullying Angelica, Cheryl Chase didn't do much in the way of voice acting following her role, picking up a job as a nurse in the Random! Cartoons television series for a single episode, but doing nothing of note since.
Despite that she is active on social media, engaging with her fans and still very proud of the show she helped become so iconic.
Kath Soucie - Phil and Lil DeVille
Soucie is another voice actor who has seen some great success following her time on Rugrats, finding jobs in popular television series Futurama, Curious George and various others. She's even appeared in video games, and most recently took part in the 2015 King's Quest episodic title, voicing Queen Valanice.
Cree Summer - Susie Carmichael
Cree is perhaps one of the most successful people to walk away from Rugrats, recently being announced as the voice of Nebula/Meredith Quill in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy television series. She's no stranger to the world of comic books, voicing Cheetah in the recent LEGO DC Super Heroes: Justice League - Attack of the Legion of Doom! television film.
Other credits including The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water where she voiced a Seagull, the Destiny video game where she voices Exo Female Guardians and the Marvel's Avengers Assemble television series, where she took the role of Darlene Wilson.
Tara Strong - Dil Pickles
Canadian Tara Strong is still in work, with her voice being used for many up-and-coming projects. With the release of video game Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain this week comes her most recent work as Paz Ortega Andrade, and she's also going to voice Twilight Sparkle in My Little Pony: Equestria Girls - Friendship Games. Those who are fans of video games may also have heard her recently voice Harley Quinn in the Arkham trilogy - she's truly a talent.
Further work will come next year as she voices a character in Charming and Animal Crackers, and she's already signed up for the 2017 new series of My Little Pony in the same role as Twilight Sparkle.
Dionne Quan - Kimi Finster
Quan worked on a series of television shows and video games following her time with Rugrats, voicing a number of different characters on The Fairly OddParents and enjoying a role as Suzy Tan in Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings.
Since 2010 however work has been very quiet for Quan which is a shame - we'd love to hear her voice in something very soon!
