Becoming a cult film upon its release back in 2001, Wet Hot American Summer was a movie set in 1981, following a group of camp counsellors on the last day of camp, starring Elizabeth Banks, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Amy Poehler, Paul Rudd, Joe Lo Truglio, Janeane Garofalo, Christopher Meloni, Ken Marino, Zak Orth, David Hyde Pierce, Molly Shannon and Marguerite Moreau.
Now, Netflix is set to release a brand new eight episode prequel to the film, titled Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp. Taking place in the same year but going back to the beginning of camp, scripts come from original film writers David Wain and Michael Showalter, reuniting original castmembers with newcomers in the form of Kristen Wiig, Randall Park and Jon Hamm.
Showalter has admitted that the bosses behind the series are "not going to try and make everything make sense", adding that the series is more about "an opportunity to bring the cast back together and tell more stories about these camp kids."
Instead of promoting the new batch of episodes with clips and teasers, the new trailer actually takes the form of a promotional video for the fictional Camp Firewood, parodying original camp promotional films in true eighties fashion.
With everything pointing to this being a great return for the cult classic, it's a series that doesn't seem to be taking itself too seriously, and with such a mega lineup reuniting, it's got to be one with a lot of passion intertwined.
Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp comes to Netflix on July 31, 2015.
