We've decided to take a look at some of the most-loved characters in Wentworth Prison ahead of the second season coming to Channel 5 later this year, having started in Australia earlier this week.

Bea Smith

Bea will be in a bad place when we pick things up again with Wentworth Prison. She's just murdered her fellow inmate Jacs Holt after she initiated a plan that got Bea's daughter killed and so with the dropping of one of her sentences, a new one will arise. She has some good friends behind bars and now that she's dethroned the 'top dog', will she be next in line for the title, and if so will it be a title she even wants?

Franky Doyle

Now that her main competition to rule the cell block is dead, Franky could make a move to take over, but could face some stiff competition as she wasn't actually the one to bring Jacs' reign to an end. With a new governor in town, just how will she take to the fresh authority without the priviledges that came with being so close to former governor Erica Davidson.

Liz Birdsworth

Always one to lend a helping hand, some of the most emotional scenes from the first season of Wentworth Prison came when we saw Liz's backstory, including just how she ended up in custody. She's a well-rounded character with some character flaws, but a good heart and loyalty in spades. She even made sure Franky wasn't found out to be the one who stabbed and killed former governor Meg Jackson.

Doreen

Another inmate with a heart of gold, Doreen is quite a sensitive soul but a friend you'd be lucky to have in your Christmas card list. She argued for Bea's right to attend her daughter's funeral and has only betrayed friends because it will benefit them in the long run.

Boomer

She's not revealed much about herself other than she can be easily influenced and used as a puppet by Franky to do her bidding. It's looking likely that this will continue on into season two and with Governess Joan Ferguson on the prowl, a punishment for illegal ongoings could be in line for this inmate.

Wentworth Prison returns to Channel 5 in August.
