The Frankenstein Code
A whole host of new trailers are being released this week as part of upfront week, starting the hype campaign for brand new series that are set to debut in the fall and spring of next season. With FOX today presenting, there was one particular show that caught our eye - The Frankenstein Code.
Starring Rob Kazinsky, the show follows the journey of former LA County Sheriff Jimmy Pritchard, a 75-year-old who is forced into retirement after being disgraced on the job. Murdered after a robbery at his son's home, two scientists take it upon themselves to bring Pritchard back to life with medical advancements that are in need of testing, so that he can have another chance at life as a young, 35-year-old police officer with super human abilities.
As well as the official trailer, a behind-the-scenes first look video was unveiled.
Not unlike Sleepy Hollow in the way in which FOX appears to be attempting to give a classic tale a modern spin, there's a big difference here in the team at the top levels, with Howard Gordon of 24 and Homeland fame calling the shots as producer.
The Frankenstein Code debuts early next year on FOX.
Lucifer
Based on the comic book by Mike Carey, Lucifer is a brand new series which asks the viewer the question: "What if the Devil decided to quit and move on to the City Of Angels?" But what exactly does happen when Lucifer decides he wants to live amongst the humans of planet Earth? A lot of chaos and drama, if the first new trailer from FOX is anything to go by.
Despite its supernatural core, this new drama is being turned into a crime and police procedural but will stick to the roots of the original comic. Deciding to run a piano bar in Los Angeles, the television show here adds the twist of having Lucifer help out the L.A.P.D. with his demonic powers.
British actor Tom Ellis takes on the lead role which character creator Neil Gaiman describes as a "sexy mad bad Dr Who", and the writer went on to say he "suspect[s] the show will become a guilty pleasure for a lot of people."
Lucifer's sidekick comes in the form of Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt) but her comic book half-deformed face has been ignored, instead allowing Brandt to keep her beauty. Lauren German plays the L.A.P.D. detective that partners with Lucifer, and Rachael Harris is also involved as therapist Linda, meeting Lucifer whilst he's on a case and later consulting him for other matters.
Though there are deviations from the comic which will have purists throwing things at their screen, this does look like a funny, exciting and thrilling ride of a show. Check out an Inside Look featurette also released by FOX below.
Lucifer comes to FOX in 2016.
Minority Report
FOX is hoping for a science fiction hit with their upcoming television series Minority Report, acting as a sequel series to director Steven Spielberg's 2002 sci-fi crime and thriller movies.
Picking up around a decade after the movie's events, the PreCrime system of murder prevention has been made illegal and been abandoned, with the three Precogs living off the grid, no longer using their psychic abilities and helping PreCrime operate. When one of the Precogs Dash decides to seek out help from the police however, he hopes he can stop the terrible visions of the future from coming true.
Stark Sands stars as the lead Dash, along with Megan Good as Lara Vega, the detective with whom he joins forces to stop murders before they take place.
Teased in the synopsis of the show released shortly after the pilot was ordered to series, it was revealed that part of Dash's internal conflict is that he only sees fragments of the future, with his missing twin brother Arthur seeing the rest.
Another first look featurette has been revealed by FOX, including cast interviews and insight from Max Borenstein - pilot script writer, and Mark Mylod - pilot director, about the first episode of the series.
Continuity is proven in the new trailer footage with visual design and presentation obviously styled after that of its big-budget feature predecessor. With huge potential, the pressure is on for FOX to deliver a strong sci-fi series that isn't cancelled before it truly gets off the ground as many have been in the past.
Minority Report will first broadcast in the fall on FOX.
Rosewood
Morris Chestnut takes on the lead role of Dr. Beaumont Rosewood, Jr. in new series Rosewood - an investigative series that follows Miami's top pathologist.
As the owner of one of the most sophisticated and state-of-the-art independent labs the country has to offer, he finds secrets in bodies that other people usually miss. Though he's constantly surrounding by death, Dr. Rosewood is obsessed with life and intent on grabbing every moment with both hands despite being plagued with his own medical ailments.
A cynical female detective (Jaina Lee Ortiz) he often works with cannot argue with the results he delivers, but his unique perspective often frustrates her as she cannot always be all about optimism.
Joining Rosewood in his practice is "toxicology queen" and his sister Pippy (Gabrielle Dennis) and DNA specialist Tara Milly Izikoff, AKA TMI (Anna Konkle) - she's Pippy's fiancée.
Rosewood will kick off this fall on FOX.
Grandfathered
Icon of television John Stamos is back with brand new FOX series Grandfathered, where he plays the lead role of the ultimate bachelor who goes on to discover he's not only a father, but a grandfather, bringing his usual life to a screeching halt.
Playing Jimmy Martino, Stamos steps into the role of a suave and handsome gentleman who has everything flipped upside down with the appearance of his adult son, Gerald (Josh Peck) and his baby daughter Edie. Now having to unlearn a lifetime of selfishness and living in ignorance, he has to grapple with the fact he's gone from being single to grandfather in just a matter of seconds.
Rocker chick Sara (Paget Brewster) keeps tabs on Jimmy in the series. She's Gerald's mother and Jimmy's former girlfriend, and has concerns about just how her ex-lover will be able to manage the new developments in his life. Equally worried is assistant manager Annelise (Kelly Jenrette) at Jimmy's restaurant, as well as chef Ken (Ravi Patel).
Will Jimmy be able to act as a father immediately and teach his son Jimmy how to be a little bit more like him so he can win the affections of Edie's mother Vanessa (Christina Milian)? And could Jimmy fall for Sara all over again, though she's the one thing he's said he'll never date - a woman his own age?
This new FOX comedy comes to the network in the fall.
The Grinder
The Grinder is another new comedy headed to FOX about a famous lawyer who decides to join his family's real law firm back home, despite having no bar certification, license to practice, formal education or experience in an actual courtroom.
Despite being a television lawyer, he's come to a crossroads in his life who finds that when his legal series ends, he might not have the easiest path ahead. His name is Dean Sanderson, and Rob Lowe steps into the role with ease.
With a brother, Stewart (Fred Savage) living life as an actual real attorney, his sibling is poised to take over the family law firm, and it doesn't take long for Dean to start injecting the television drama nuisances into every aspect of Stewart's life. Impacting Stewart's wife and Dean's high school sweetheart Debbie (Mary Elizabeth Ellis) as well as their two kids Lizzie and Ethan (Hana Hayes and Connor Kalopsis), there's a lot of ups and downs for the family going ahead.
Though Dean and Stewart don't see eye to eye, they do eventually stop arguing with one another - only to argue with each other once more in court, making a formidable team. With very different pasts, they meet again in the middle - but will justice be served?
The Grinder will premiere on FOX this fall.
Bordertown
A new animated comedy for the broadcaster, Bordertown will center around two families that live in an American, Southwest desert town on the Mexico border, taking a satirical look at the cultural shifts which are occuring in America's present day.
With Family Guy's Mark Hentemann and Seth MacFarlane at the top, this sees the U.S. Census predict that by 2017, the ethnic minorities will become the majorities, whilst the show explores family, politics and everything in between whilst keeping popular culture close.
Two clans are focused on in the show - the Buckwalds and the Gonzalezes. Bud Buckwald (Hank Azaria) is a married father to three kids and a Border Patrol agent who's slightly behind the times, feeling threatened by the cultural changes which are transforming the landscape. Next door to him lives Ernesto Gonzalez (Nicholas Gonzalez) - an ambitious immigrant and family man who's been in the country for 10 years but is already more successful for Bud.
Bud's married to Janice Buckwald (Alex Borstein), who's described as the "wisest and most oblivious member of the family". The pair have kids Becky - an awkward and big-boned geek, (Borstein) Sanford - a loser who thinks he's a player, (Judah Friedlander) and Gert - a beauty-pageant obsessed five-year-old with a pet pig. (Missi Pyle)
Meanwhile next door, Maria is the wife of the house who takes no nonsense, living with her 21-year-old nephew and recent college graduate J.C. (Gonzalez) and son Ruiz (Efren Ramirez).
Bounded by romance, conflict and friendship, the two families lives begin to cross, with each eventually discovering that it doesn't matter what side of the border you're from - when it comes down to it, we're all the same.
FOX premieres Bordertown in 2016.
