As has become tradition for a Saturday, today we’ll be taking a look at some of the biggest TV news to break across the past seven days! This week, we’ve got some incredible casting news, as well as a landmark deal for HBO and a surprise return to everybody’s favourite medical drama…
George R.R. Martin signs five-year HBO deal for six Game of Thrones series
Following on from the hugely-successful Game of Thrones series, HBO have encouraged author of the source material, A Song of Ice & Fire, to sign the dotted line on a five-year network deal, which includes a further six series on HBO and HBO Max. Not all of the shows will be based within the same universe, however.
Though no official number has been given, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that it's within the mid-eight figures, which puts estimates at around $15 million. Not too shabby for a man who hasn’t even concluded his writing on the original novel series for which GoT was based!
What we know right now, is that Martin serves as an executive producer on Who Fears Death, adapted from Nnedi Okorafor's novel; as well as Roadmarks, also based on a novel, this time by Roger Zelazny.
Katia Winter joins The Boys in villainous role
A major character from The Boys comic books is coming to the small screen with its third season, and Swedish actress Katia Winter (Sleepy Hollow, Dexter) will be playing her!
The villainous Little Nina is that character, according to Deadline. She's an (extremely short) Russian mob boss who works with other villains within The Boys universe to create dozens of Supes. Never stepping out of Russia on the pages of the comics, could her arrival signal a change of location for the TV series?
Chyler Leigh returning as Lexie to Grey's Anatomy
Despite not appearing in Grey’s Anatomy since her tragic exit as Lexie back in 2012, Chyler Leigh will be making a comeback in what is sure to be one of the most emotional shows the series has ever seen.
As Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) explores her beach - otherwise referred to as her ‘in-between world’ - she is visited by her sister who passed away following the dramatic plane crash that she and other members of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital were involved in, back in Season 8.
Whether her appearance will be one that runs through the entire episode, or instead is very brief, one thing’s for sure; it’ll be a welcome bit of fan-service for those who have stuck with the show since the very beginning.
Kaia Gerber joins American Horror Story: Double Feature
Supermodel Kaia Gerber, the daughter of Cindy Crawford, has signed up to appear in the landmark 10th season of American Horror Story, subtitled Double Feature.
The news was revealed by creator Ryan Murphy via Instagram, and whilst there has been no information released in regards to the character she’ll be playing, it’s always exciting to see another newbie join the alum of one of the most unique and interesting anthology series the small screen has ever seen.
Evan Peters to play Jeffrey Dahmer in Netflix series
When it was revealed that Ryan Murphy had penned a huge deal with Netflix, we knew we'd be excited to see the content he'd put out through the streaming service. One of those is Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, and we now know that Evan Peters will play the infamous serial killer.
According to Deadline, other names attached the project include Niecy Nash, Richard Jenkins and Penelope Ann Miller.
Delving into the realm of psychological thrillers, the show is rumoured to tell the Dahmer story from the perspective of one of his many victims, rather than that of the killer himself, or the authorities hunting him down.
