Coming to Sky Living tonight, Madam Secretary tells the story of the newly appointed Secretary of State, a role that sees the person in it as influential and essential within the White House.
With the death of the former secretary of state, Elizabeth McCord is asked to step in and although she's at first hesitant, she goes on to take the title and from day one is thrown in at the deep end, having to deal with an international hostage crisis.
We won't give away anymore than that, however! You'll have to tune in tonight to see exactly what happens, but just in case you're stumped on who's who, here's what we know about the people you'll be seeing on-screen...
Elizabeth McCord (Téa Leoni)
Newly appointed as secretary of state, Elizabeth is a woman who doesn't mince her words. Straight to the point with a cool air about her and dry wit, she's a pro at handling the press and her staff. At home she's a devoted wife and mother to three children, and soon finds out it's tough to juggle long hours in the White House with the demands of being a family woman.
Dr Henry McCord (Tim Daly)
With clear ethics, Elizabeth's husband Henry is a theology professor at Georgetown University following his time as a pilot and former captain within the United States Marine Corps. Also working as a National Security Agency spy in his former years, it's hard to get anything by Henry without him picking up on it, but now that his wife is largely absent from the home, usual and conventional roles begin to reverse as Henry heads up taking charge of the family.
Stevie, Allison and Jason McCord (Wallis Currie-Wood, Kathrine Herzer, Evan Roe)
20-year-old Stevie is a strong-minded individual willing to fight for the causes she believes in. Meanwhile, 15-year-old Allison is finding it tough since her move to Washington, missing her boyfriend and friends. Then there's young child Jason, a self-proclaimed anarchist who enjoys video games and living near the White House.
President Conrad Dalton (Keith Carradine)
Despite a friendly past, President Conrad Dalton makes it clear that he won't be treating Elizabeth any differently to the other members of staff he rules over. With claims to wanting to bring real change to the world, is this a politician that can be trusted?
Russell Jackson (Zeljko Ivanek)
Happiest when things are done in the way in which he wants them doing, White House chief of staff Russell doesn't take kindly to members of his team going over his head, and he warns Elizabeth about this fact early on, stating: "I think you'll find I make a better ally than opponent".
Matt Mahoney and Daisy Grant (Geoffrey Arend, Patina Miller)
Though they're both seeing other people, press co-ordinator Daisy and speechwriter Matt were caught at the Christmas party getting close and comfortable. Now their working relationship is more awkward than ever - but just how will this pair play into the story being told?
Nadine Tolliver (Bebe Neuwirth)
As Elizabeth's chief of staff, Nadine is a woman who, according to Daisy, "hates everyone". Judgemental and outspoken, she has a particular dislike for Elizabeth and continues to bear strong allegiance to former and now deceased secretary of state Vincent Marsh.
Blake Moran (Erich Bergen)
As one of the few people in the White House who Elizabeth knows is on her side, Blake is the secretary of state's personal assistant. Making claims he can be trusted both within the realms of career and real-life, he's mocked by colleagues at times because of his close allegiance to his employer.
Madam Secretary debuts on Sky Living tonight, Thursday April 23 at 9pm.
