NOTE: Spoilers
The Following returns to screens on Tuesday night for its second season, but with the events that transpired at the end of the first, where exactly could it go?
Quite a few different ways apparently, as the first episode - 'Resurrection' proves, with a fantastic and exciting culmination of proceedings that will have you questioning everything you thought you ever knew about the series.
Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) and partner Claire Matthews (Natalie Zea) were in a spot of trouble last time we saw them, when a member of Joe Carroll's (James Purefoy) cult broke into their home, knife in hand and murder on their mind.
What transpires - without saying too much - is something grisly that will change the dynamics of the show forever.
Rumours have been rife online as to whether Joe survived the explosion at the end of season one, and without wanting to spoil that completely - you do find out whether or not he made it in this episode.
Emma Hill (Valorie Curry) is back after murdering fellow cult member Jacob Wells (Nico Tortorella), and is just as shocked as the police when she and those who still remain with her see the news of a mass-murder on the subway, where three people wearing creepy Joe Carroll masks killed a carriage of passengers.
We're introduced to the members of this 'new' cult, and before long, Mike Weston (Shawn Ashmore) is called into the FBI offices alongside Ryan to provide help on the new case.
However, Ryan's not interested in working with a team, and instead takes it upon himself to deliver justice and get to the root of things alone, ignoring Mike whenever he can.
It's an opening episode that doesn't let up, and promises a season full of twists and turns that should make fans excited as well as uneasy.
'Resurrection' airs on Sky Atlantic at 10pm on Tuesday, January 21.
