Marvel has recently turned heads once more by making some very big announcements. Their plans to release not only films but TV shows on Disney+ have got us very excited! They'll focus on a myriad of characters and mysterious situations, with those unveiled including Loki, What If...? and Moon Knight.
Many of the aforementioned shows are hopefully coming out this year, including of course, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier – set to release on March 19th, 2021.
Fans cannot wait to see what Marvel has in store for their beloved characters, and for new ones never before seen on the big or small screen such as She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel.
Marvel tends to raise expectations to a grand level with everything they do, even if fans don’t seem too keen on the context at first. Remember the hype for Guardians of the Galaxy or Ant-Man? No, neither do we! There hardly was any.
The fans were not disappointed in the end however, as both films added some amazing characters, plots and stories to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Let's be honest though, Marvel have been giving us exceptional content since the very beginning.
So, when did we last see The Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and The Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan)?
Last time we saw the pair was when Captain America/Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) travelled back in time at the end of Avengers: Endgame in order to return the Infinity Stones back to where they belong.
During his adventure back in time, Rogers decided to take the long way back and live out his life with his sweetheart, Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), as he missed his chance the first time round due to his heroic sacrifice.
Rogers speaks to The Falcon (otherwise known as Sam Wilson) when he is older and has spent a full life how he would have wanted. He gives Wilson his shield, as he thinks Falcon is someone who could take over the Captain America mantle.
This led to many assuming Wilson would instantly become our new Captain America, but that wasn't to be. He told Rogers that the shield didn't feel right on his arm and should belong to the original Captain America only.
Some may have been left wondering why the Winter Soldier (Bucky) wasn’t given this honour. Due to Hydra’s control over his mind as seen in previous films, Bucky has been seen as a villain in the eyes of the public, so his face would not fit the bill of a typical hero – sorry, Bucky.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is getting everyone excited, and following the current Marvel show streaming on Disney+, WandaVision, it will be fantastic.
WandaVision is already doing exceptionally well despite only having three episodes streaming, and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will, more than likely, be phenomenal in its own way.
The plot for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier has not been revealed except for the basic information – the duo team up to go on an adventure that spans the globe, and tests their endurance, abilities, and patience. More may be revealed in the lead-up to the show being streamed on Disney+.
Neither Mackie nor Stan have revealed anything in terms of stories or even little hints, except for when the former was discussing the show with James Corden on The Late Late Show.
Mackie explained that, since paparazzi and some fans were in the areas when they were shooting the show, if he were to be the next Captain America as everyone is thinking, there would surely be a leaked photo of him with the famous shield, right?
While this isn’t necessarily a hint as Mackie could be throwing us off the idea, it could still be a possibility – but that is only a fan theory and nothing solid.
In terms of casting, we obviously know Mackie and Stan as the leading roles. However, in the trailer for the show, we see Zemo (Daniel Brühl), the villain from Captain America: Civil War.
This is highly interesting and something to definitely theorise about. Zemo was last seen imprisoned after what he did to the Avengers – his plan to break them apart and make them hate each other (which kind of worked).
While Zemo was caught, he still succeeded in some way with his plan as Iron Man/Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Rogers are no longer on speaking terms and The Avengers have essentially split up.
With knowledge of where we saw Zemo last, we could assume he broke out of prison – or was broken out by someone else. However, he is only in the trailer for a couple of seconds and there is next to nothing in that shot to make any assumptions of.
In terms of the show, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier trailer gives us very little, if anything in the way of plot or any way to venture a guess at what may be the plot – from the trailer that is. Many fans have theories as to what the duo will be up to, though.
If WandaVision was on the low end of the expectations for fans (which for some it was), then one can only assume that it will go uphill from there. Marvel has pulled out all the stops and it seems they will let the fans see Bucky and Wilson in a new light – the spotlight.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier will be streaming on Disney+ from March 19th 2021 – don’t miss out!
