NOTE: Spoilers
American Horror Story has been a mixed bag this year with Freak Show. Some aspects of it are some of the best the series has ever seen, whilst other moments fall flat and deadline entire episodes.
What's been a recurring theme though is the brilliance of Finn Wittrock in the role of psychotic serial killer Dandy Mott.
New to the AHS franchise, fans didn't know how to take to the star, as many hadn't seen him in other shows he's done in the past. Hugely charismatic and enigmatic from the outset, the love for him wasn't dulled despite his strange obsession with Twisty the Clown, his volatile relationship with his mother and maid and his penchant for drinking alcohol from a baby's bottle, complete with teat.
Going on to eventually murder his own mother Gloria before bathing in her blood and using her body parts for human-sized puppetry, Dandy is far and beyond anyone we've seen on television in the past. And he does all this whilst still maintaining a loyal fanbase who can't help but love, or love to hate the strange young boy trapped in an adult body.
Ryan Murphy and the AHS creators and writers have done a fine job here of creating one of the most fascinating horror characters perhaps of all time. But they're not the only ones to thank for this. Could you see perhaps Evan Peters in this role? I for one believe that only Finn could have made it what it is today.
It's for that reason he has my vote as the person who provided the standout television performance of 2014. He's perfect in the role and will now hopefully be a brand new staple for the seasons to come.
American Horror Story: Freak Show concludes in the New Year.
